[The lighting was pretty
poor when I took Quincy’s pictures and the flash washed out his rich tan]
This was a scan of a computer printed photo,
which isn’t the best way to do it.
Quincy’s father, SG Chicco von der Fasanerie
SchH3 FH kkl1, placed 10th in the ultra competitive German national
schutzhund competition: the Bundessiegerprufung. Chicco is know for producing calm, biddable dogs with superb
working ability, and Quincy is no exception.
Quincy
was born in Germany and went to The Netherlands as a puppy. He came to the US in 1999 and lives in the San Diego area. He was imported by Dave Taylor,
but is currently owned by Mike Wang.
Quincy
was chosen to sire Klaatu’s litter because he is a high confidence,
clear-minded worker. He’s not whining
while waiting to work. He’s watching
calmly, but intensely. And he doesn’t
fight the handler; he’s a team player.
Quincy is well-known and well-liked around San Diego and is in demand as
a stud. Indeed, when Rochelle Stanford
asked me who Drazi’s father was and I answered simply “Quincy”, she responded,
“The Quincy that Dave Taylor used to own that everyone likes so much?”
High
confidence is important because it is the source of a stock dog’s power. Without it, a dog is unable to move
obstinate stock.
Clear-minded
is important. It means a dog will hear
and obey the handler’s commands even in the mist of enthusiatic work. It means the dog pays attention during
training so learns readily.
Team
player of course means the dog operates as part of a team. He’s not just in it for himself.
Quincy’s
structure is very good, and it compliments Klaatu’s well. His movement is smooth and effortless. To me, this is very important if a dog is
going to be working livestock all day long.
Go watch an AHBA French course trial, and you’ll be able to pick out the
dogs with the poor structure and gait by how easily they wear out on this long
course. I don’t just breed for arena
course dogs. I breed for versitile
herding dogs.
Quincy’s
fabulous working ability is reflected in the high scores he has received in all
3 phases of schutzhund. As of 2/2000
Quincy’s
tracking scores have ranged from 95 to 100
Quincy’s
obedience scores have ranged from 84 to 95.
Quincy’s
protection scores have ranged from 92 to 98.
Actually,
Quincy and Klaatu have pretty much the same temperament. All the pups appear to have it too. These are excellent working dogs who would
also do well in pet homes because of their easy going attitudes and calm
demeanors.
