Buddy System- A safety practice in which girls are paired to help and keep track of each other. Court of Awards- A ceremony at which recognitions and awards are presented. Fly up- The ceremony at which a Brownie Girl Scout "graduates" to Junior Girl Scouts Founder's Day- Juliete Low's birthday October 31 Friendship Circle- A symbolic gesture in which Girl Scouts form a circle by crossing arms and clasping each others hands. Girl Guides- The original name for Girl Scouts, still used in many countries. Girl Scout Birthday-March 12 Girl Scout Handshake- A formal way of greeting other Girl Scouts by shaking left hands while giving the Girl Scout sign with the right. Girl Scout Leaders Day- April 22, A special day to recognize Girl Scouts leaders. Girl Scout sign- The official Girl Scout greeting. The right hand is raised shoulder high with the three middle fingers extended and the thumb crossing over the palm to hold down the little finger. Girl Scout's Own- A quiet inspirational ceremony that has a theme and is planned by the Girls and their leaders. Interest Project Patch- A rectangular embroidered patch earned by Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. Investiture-A special ceremony in which new members make the Girl Scout Promise and receive the membership pin. Kaper Chart-A chart that shows the delegation of jobs (kapers) Motto- "Be Prepared" Program Aide- A Cadette or Senior Girl Scout who has been trained to assist younger Girl Scout groups. Patrol- A troop's division into smaller groups. Quiet Sign-The signal for silence in the group. The person in charge raises the right hand and the Girl Scouts present fall silent and raise their right hands. Rededication-A formal ceremony at which a girl or adult, who was previously invested, renews her Girl Scout Promise. Sit upon-A cushion made by a Girl Scout to use when the ground is damp or to clean her clothes clean. Slogan-"Do a good deed daily" Thinking Day-February 22. The day set aside in which Girl Scouts and Girl Guides think about their sister Scouts around the world. Trefoil-The international symbol of Girl Scouting and Girl Guiding. The three leaves of the trefoil represent the three parts of the Promise. Try it- A triangular embroidered patch earned by Brownie Girl Scouts.
