News and Notes:
Spring 2006
Lama Visit. We
had a visit from Bardor Tulku Rinpoche May 22-23, 2006. Rinpoche
spoke on Buddhism: a Path of Compassion and Peace. Rinpoche spoke
about how all being long for happiness and peace, but we usually seek
to change the world around us. Buddhism suggests that we turn
within and cultivate the causes of happiness and peace within
ourselves. Specifically, the greatest cause of suffering is anger
and negativity, and therefore the greatest antidote is compassion.
Compassion is the most direct path to happiness and peace.
Later Rinpoche gave the Vajrapani empowerment. Vajrapani is a
deity specifically associated with Tantric Buddhism. He is the
Bodhisattva representing the activity of the Buddha.
The Center is Moving.
St. Alban's Episcopal church, which has graciously
provided us with a wonderful practice space, is going to be merging
with St. Stephen's Episcopal church, and the doors of St. Alban's will
be closing. However, the community at St. Stephen's has offered
us a similar invitation to practice in their space, and made a very
nice shrine room available to us. We will be moving to the new
center this summer.
