Losar Celebration
February 22, 6:00 p.m.

Losar is the Tibetan New Year, one of the major Buddhist holidays in the Tibetan tradition, and an auspicious time to practice together.  On Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6:00 p.m., our center held the Green Tara practice, a practice to accumulate merit and dispel obstacles for the coming year.  The practice was followed by a potluck.

Aspiration of Mahamudra

One of the five great aspiration liturgies of the Kagyü lineage is the Aspiration of the Definitive Meaning, Mahamudra, composed by the Third Gyalwang Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje. It is essentially a complete explanation of the various aspects of  Mahamudra, presented in the form of an aspiration in order to be accessible to students endowed with faith, devotion and interest in this system of transmission and practice.

Mendong Tsampa Rinpoche (Karma Ngedön Tengye) was an important nineteenth-century master of the Karma Kagyü tradition. He was a “hidden yogi”a great realized master with a concealed appearanceand was also a direct disciple of the Fifteenth Gyalwang Karmapa, Khakhyap Dorje. Ornament to the Intention of the Takpo Kagyü is his brief commentary on the Third Karmapa’s Aspiration of the Definitive Meaning, Mahamudra. In his commentary, Mendong Tsampa Rinpoche clearly and succinctly elucidates the profound meaning of Lord Rangjung Dorje’s great Aspiration, expanding on the brevity of the root stanzas in a manner that highlights their instructional import as well as the ultimate purpose of the aspiration itselfthe authentic realization of Mahamudra.
