Damn Good Cookies

These are AWESOME!!!!!!
My mother has made these every Christmas for as far back as I can remember.
They are my favorite cookies.  They are irresistible.  
I've shared them with many people over the years,
...and EVERYONE who tried them wanted two things,
the recipe.... and another cookie!

1 cup Shortening
1 cup Sugar
1 cup Brown Sugar
2 Eggs, beaten
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 Tbsp Cold Water
2 cups Cake Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1 tsp Salt
2 cups Rolled Oats
1 cup Coconut
1 cup Fruit flavored Gum Drops, chopped
-If you have trouble finding these you can substitute fruit flavored wedges (like those orange-slice candies)
 

1 box

 

Powdered Sugar
for later

-Cream shortening and sugars together. 
-Beat Eggs, add baking soda dissolved in the water and vanilla.
-Combine egg mixture with sugar/shortening mixture.
-Sift flour with baking powder and salt, and stir into creamed mixture. 
-Add remaining ingredients except powdered sugar.

-Shape into small balls, place on well greased cookie sheet
-Bake 12 minutes at 375 degrees

-Dredge with Powdered Sugar


Makes 120 cookies
