General Pre-Course information for Mr. Manne's Basic Pistol courses:
Directions : The class will be taught with lecture portions in Fairfax
Station, and the shooting portion at the NRA Range in Fairfax. We will
carpool/caravan to the range
as people desire, but to get to the lecture location,
consult Directions.
EACH STUDENT SHOULD BRING:
- $100 Course tuition (if you haven't pre-paid with signup)
- $5 for pizza lunch, or a bag lunch.
- $10 range fee (if not an annual range member)
- $2 range card fee (if first time you ever shot at the NRA Range)
<<< So unless you hate pizza or joined the range, assume $115 total for Basic Pistol and Personal Protection >>>
- Eye Protection (if you have it) - shatter/scratch-resistant eyeglasses
are fine.
- Ear Protection (if you have it) - We have loaners if you don't have
any.
- OPTIONAL : Your own firearm, if you wish
- OPTIONAL : Ammo or ammo $$ for YOUR firearm (I provide ammo for my
loaners).
- OPTIONAL : *CLEARLY* dummy ammo for YOUR firearm (if you have it)
Regarding PISTOLS: no one needs to bring their own firearms if they don't
already
have one. A loaner pistol (.22LR) will be available for the rangetime as
needed. If
you DO have your own pistol, you are encouraged to bring it with you to
class
(UNLOADED!!!) so that you can learn with the pistol you plan to shoot.
Please be
discreet in bringing firearms to the house for class use - i.e., holster,
carry box, etc.
(ie. Please don't scare our neighbors!)
Regarding AMMO: There is NO LIVE AMMO ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM -
unless it's 90 on Saturday, leave it out of sight locked in your vehicle.
If you have a
concern leaving your ammo in the car, bring it with you and declare it at
the door --
Kathy will store it for you during class and return it to you when we
leave for the
range. If you normally carry concealed, this also applies to your carry
piece too, no
matter how many times you promise you won't touch it during class. There
is
**NO** live ammo allowed in the classroom anywhere. We WILL be checking
each
pistol to see that it's unloaded before you enter the classroom.
Regarding "DUMMY AMMO" (fake, or practice ammo) : snapcaps or *clearly*
unfirable ammo (eg. wooden dowel painted red) for dry-firing is allowed.
Real
brass with the powder and/or primer removed is NOT acceptable as
dummies.
Regarding CLOTHING : How you dress is entirely up to you, but we recommend
:
- Don't wear an open-neck or cowl-neck shirt (it could catch hot brass,
which
is not pleasant).
- Don't wear / be ready to remove earrings (posts are nasty under
earmuffs!)
- Open-toed shoes are not recommended.
Regarding FOOD : We usually provide coffee, tea, soda and breakfast-type
snacks.
Lunch is currently expected to be ordering pizza, majority rules for
toppings. There
will be a fridge and microwave available if you wish to bring your lunch
(already
prepared) with you. There will not be time to go out for lunch, nor
cooking. We
expect to dismiss class before Dinnertime.
