SIERRA VISTA SQUARE DANCING
Square dancing in Sierra Vista is a fun, energetic, mind boggling activity. It’s a perfect family activity, enjoyed by young and old alike. Unlike normal dancing, it doesn't matter what foot you're on. You just maneuver around the square.

OUR CALLERS
We are fortunate to have a variety of callers in the Sierra Vista area. We dance to a different caller each week. Our callers have been Bill George, Cel Potter, Chet Bahn, Tom Evans, and Chuck Bjoe.
Cued Round Dancing is usually offered between “tips”. A square dancing tip is about 10 minutes of “patter call”, where the caller calls one move after another to continuous rhythmic music. The moves are often part of the choreographed “singing call” which follows and ends the tip.
ATTIRE for regular dance nights:
When we think of square dancing, we picture poofy petticoats and western attire. Don’t let that scare you off! Not everyone likes dressing up, but many still enjoy wearing the traditional/formal square dance attire once they get involved in square dancing. In our club, we encourage square dance attire, but we don’t insist on it. We tend to wear traditional attire in the winter time (October-April) and dress more casually in the summer months (May-September).
It’s totally up to you what you wear. We have a simple request, that men try to wear long sleeve shirts (which keeps sweaty arms from being a problem). Ladies may wear tops with short. Many women enjoy wearing long prairie or “broomstick” skirts. And some just wear slacks. In the warmer summer months, we wear t-shirts, shorts, or whatever is coolest.
LESSONS OPTIONS
Our club has a variety of ways to introduce new dancers, do reviews for previous dancers, and teach folks all they need to be competent Basic, Mainstream or Plus level dancers.
ABC PROGRAM....In October, we will have a program where newcomers can try square dancing any Friday night.
ETC PROGRAM...In February, for about 7 weeks, we show "experienced ABCers" the remaining Basic level calls, so they can start dancing with our club.
We use DVD's, CD's, and computer programs to teach individual lessons when people need refreshers or need to learn more. We try to adapt to the needs at the time.
PARTNERS?
Though square dancing is done with couples, you do not have to come with a partner. Many of us are happy to share our partners, so we can get some rest between tips. We also have “angels” (individuals who come to lessons and take part in a square of dancers, so newcomers can dance with an experienced dancer as a partner.)
COST
You only pay if you show up. You can choose to join the club and get a discounted rate or continue to pay the non-member price each time you attend. (The following pricing is subject to change, but should be very close to what will be charged.)
