Reduce SYMPTOMS

Are you sure you are just dealing with RLS?

Are you sure you know what RLS symptoms are?

The only thing we are sure of, in terms of RLS symptoms, is:

----RLS symptoms give us an irresistable urge to squirm, causing us to move voluntarily. The movements ARE voluntary, even though we don't feel we have much choice in the matter. It's important to distinguish between RLS symptoms and the INvoluntary jerking that occurs with Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD), which usually occurs during sleep, but can also happen during the day.

----RLS symptoms tend to occur when we are trying to be still

----RLS symptoms are usually more prevalent in the evening, and may tend to disappear around 4a.m.

----RLS symptoms are relieved by walking or becoming totally distracted

I highly recommend you fill your "Reduce Symptoms" folder    with observations and information you gather about other ailments you might be dealing with. This might include everything from peripheral vascular disease, to end stage kidney disease, to heart problems, to emotional problems. By isolating the symptoms of RLS, and learning to differentiate between RLS and your other ailments, you will be reducing the size of your RLS "beast" and helping it achieve "bully size".

REVISIT THIS FOLDER!!!! New ailments can always develop. You don't want to assume your RLS is getting worse, when it might be the presence of another condition, which is only aggravating the RLS symptoms. Do not rule anything out, permanently. As you age, you will encounter more ailments which might aggravate your RLS and/or be confused with it's symptoms. Do NOT assume things stay the same. Revisit this folder often, and question, again, whether you have any new ailments.

OTHER SYMPTOMS?
There are other symptoms which MIGHT be from RLS, but are not necessarily considered RLS symptoms. These might include burning sensations, involuntary jerking, pain, etc.

HOW DO YOU KNOW?

The only way to determine which symptoms are which, is to work with a doctor. What's important, is that you learn to differentiate between symptoms. It's possible that some of your symptoms are from other ailments, and should be treated BEFORE treating for RLS.

It's important to know which symptoms you expect a treatment or trick to help. For instance, the trick of sucking on a sucker (used to distract you during an RLS attack), probably won't have any useful purpose in terms of alleviating the pain of peripheral neuropathy, arthritis, or peripheral vascular disease.
