There are many 914 engine conversions out there. But there are very few that have been done well...

The Engine

As with most 914 V8 conversions, we used a small block Chevrolet. This car uses precision-built, balanced roller cam engine found in the early 1990s Z28 Camaro. Combined with the Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, and Hedman headers, this engine will give you plenty of smooth-running performance. Our estimate is that this engine will deliver approximately 300 HP on regular unleaded gasoline.

The powerplant is mated to the stock 914 '901' transaxle. This combination gives good street performance, and you'll find the smooth quiet engine comfortable on longer trips as well.

The Cooling System

Of utmost importance in any 914 engine conversion is a well-designed cooling system. This car uses the Desert Hybrids radiator and water pump design that have proven themselves in the desert heat of southern Arizona. Here, summertime temperatures routinely reach 110 deg. F. Only a well-built system with attention to detail can keep an engine cool in this heat.
