The Green Valley Danes
The initial meeting of the Green Valley Danes was held on Easter Sunday 2003, at ViewPoint Social Center. Invitations had gone out to everyone known to be Danish in Green Valley, and in trying to foster the Danish spirit, those who attended were asked to bring makings for Danish open faced sandwiches.
One of the problems facing the club from the start was the fact that not all were members of GVR, so we were looking for a permanent facility. Birgitte Urman, who lived at La Posada, came to the rescue and arranged for us to use the La Posada Recreation Center, and the first regular meeting was held there in September 2003.
Through word of mouth and personal invitations besides a monthly meeting notice in the Green Valley News, the membership slowly swelled and has remained around 40 over the years. As one member drops out, another joins.
