Specifics of a GYMSTERSdance Class

The GYMSTERSdance class presents a rich curriculum of themes, rhythms, and music in each lesson. Attention is focused on differences between classical ballet, jazz, and tap. Such cultural themes and dances as Hawaiian Hula, Mexican Hat Dance, and Chinese Fan Dance, are also incorporated.

Listening and social interaction skills are continuously reinforced. Four styles of dance technique (ballet, jazz, tap, and creative movement) are offered including the following five types of activities:

  1. An energizing aerobic warm-up utilizes lots of little kid energy and teaches aerobic exercise and stretching techniques to older children.
  2. A fun, creative movement experience enhances self-expression, and props such as hats, fans, an batons are used to emphasize the weekly theme.
  3. Enjoyment of the learning process is nurtured and reinforced by reviewing previously learned steps.
  4. New technique is synthesized with previously learned combinations to help instill a sense of succes each week.
  5. A relaxing cool-down stretch activity provides a calm, settled ending.

GYMSTERSdance lesson cards are posted at schools for parents to view every week.
