Biography and Statement
I did not look for it. It came looking for me. And I don't know where it came from, but there it was, pictures speaking to me, casting a spell. All I could do was follow. And I wanted to show others that magic, to let them see the wonder that is there, to make it plainly clear—to find the visible in the invisible. It has been an endless looking and striving to see clearly the sense of the chaotic infinity of objects that confront us. And when I succeed, the photograph seems more real than the thing itself. Everything in nature conforms to some design developed and refined by the test of time. Discovering the wisdom embedded in this natural history is always exhilarating. The commonplace is miraculous if rightly seen, if recognized. The richness of nature and life begs one to form a collage from its objects, to reassemble fragments in such a way as to form a new picture.

MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTS, Balboa Park, San Diego
I served as a founding member of the board of trustees of the Museum of Photographic Arts from 1981 to 1983. It was during this time that construction of the museum was undertaken in San Diego's Balboa Park. The museum opened in May 1983 and has been expanding ever since.
LOCAL ART SHOWS
I am a member of the Carlsbad-Oceanside Art League and the Coronado Art Association. These organizations sponsor outdoor art shows where members display and sell their work. We have found that the public prefers to buy directly from the artist rather than through a gallery. Meeting and talking with the artist adds a personal touch lacking in a gallery. More importantly, this saves the buyer the cost of the commission charged by the gallery which typically is a 100% markup of what the gallery returns to the artist. In other words, when you buy directly from the artist you pay only half of what the same work of art would cost you in a gallery.

These art shows are galleries without walls. This works well in the balmy climate of San Diego. Without the expense of rent, staff salaries, and the numerous other costs of operating a gallery, these savings can be passed on to the buyer in terms of lower prices.

If you live in San Diego, or when visiting the city, I invite you to take a look at the art on display at these shows. Anywhere from ten to thirty artists may be exhibiting their works at any one time. The quality of the art is high because in order to exhibit, each artist has to be juried by a committee set up by each organization. The times and places for these shows are listed below. I rotate between the locations, so if you are specifically interested in seeing my photographs, please telephone when you are in town or contact me by email so I can let you know at which location I'll be exhibiting.

Coronado Art Association  First and third Sunday of every month from 9 AM until 4 PM at Spreckels Park located at Orange Avenue and 7th Street in the city of Coronado, just a short drive on the Bay Bridge over San Diego Bay.
Shelter Island Art Association  Usually on Sundays, sometimes Saturdays, from 9 AM until 4 PM at the traffic circle near the Bali Hai Restaurant on Shelter Island located in Point Loma just off Rosecrans Street in San Diego.
