Highlights & Upcoming Events
- New cell phone petition available!
- November 15th Tax filing due! All PTAs must file taxes now! If you had under $25,000 income then you only have to submit an e-postcard, which takes less then 10 minutes on-line. This is due Nov 15th, but there is no reason that you can't do it now for last school year! Don't wait! When done, you need to send notice to the VA PTA that you have done that. You can just e-mail electronic receipt to info@vapta.org. Info in handbook.
- November 19th Parent Involvement Day: We urge PTAs to plan events at their schools on (or near) this date to bring families into our schools! Share with us whatever plans you may have. Contact our family & community involvement chair, Rebecca Mahan if questions, 851-7088, symspta@aol.com.
- Jan 16th, 9 am to 10 pm: City-wide PTA benefit event at the Hampton Barnes and Noble. Right now we are in the planning stages for this. Click here for detailed info on the planning. We are hoping this event will benefit all our schools and PTA! We will advertise through community and urge citizens to buy books for all our schools. Our goal is to have a display at Barnes & Noble with book wish-lists for every school. Click here for information on how you can get books donated for your school. E-mail Connie Bridges to reserve your space for your school group (bands, singers, guitar, drama,...) to perform at the store this day or for your principal or a teacher to do a reading at the store that day. We need book wish-lists and interested performers/readers to get with us by November 30th! Please plan on coming out this day to help support our scholarship & Reflections programs!
- Bylaws: These schools have expired bylaws or expiring bylaws which need addressed during this coming school year: Forrest, Syms, Bethel, Smith, Tyler, Jones, Phoebus, Lee, Eaton, Tucker-Capps, & Wythe. Please contact our bylaws chair, Alicia Dobyns 838-9725 if you have any questions or need help with this.
- Training materials are available from the VA PTA Leadership Training Conference in Richmond in July! This link takes you to the VA PTA site that has those training materials posted. It has them organized by session number, so click here for a summary of those training courses so that you can find the document that you want.
- We still need officer listings from the following schools: Asbury, Bassette, Bethel, Cary, Cooper, Davis, Kecoughtan, Lee, Lindsay, Smith & Wythe. You will need to submit the city form and the state form.
- New! The VA PTA is looking for a chairperson for their Secondary PTA/PTSA committee. See information and application form.
- If you want to conduct any PTA business by email, an amendment to your bylaws is required. See details in the document library.
