What is Reflexology?

Working on feet is an ancient art practiced by all cultures.  Reflexology, as we know it today, started in the 1920's, and, is based on the work of two American physicians, Dr. Fitzgerald and Dr. Riley, who called it "Zone Therapy" and used it primarily as pain relief.  Physiotherapist, Eunice D. Ingham, developed their knowledge into a broader therapy, calling it Foot Reflexology.  Eunice devoted her life to researching, practicing, and then educating people about reflexology.   She took it to the public in the late 1930's and started a Reflexology School, in Florida.  She created a "map" of the body on the feet, showing the various reflex points.

Reflexology is based on the premise that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet corresponding to all glands, organs, parts and systems of the body.  The same premise applies to hands and ears.  Feet provide the most "surface" to work on, however, hand and ear reflexology are also very effective.   In 1957, Paul Nogier MD, from France, discovered a "map" resembling the shape of the human body on the outer ear.

How does it Work?

The physical act of applying pressure, using thumb, finger and hand techniques to reflex areas results in the reduction of stress

What are the Benefits?

Many health problems result from stress, which creates imbalances through a build up of toxins, inhibiting the free flow of energy essential to our well being.  Because the feet help set the tension level for the rest of the body, they are an easy way to interrupt the stress signal, which will:

·         Induce a state of relaxation         ·         Help to cleanse the body of toxins

·         Improve circulation                       ·         Regulate body functions

·         Create order, harmony and balance within your body

About You!  What should You expect from a Reflexology Session?

A full Reflexology session will last approximately one hour.  It is a clothed session with only the removal of shoes and socks as a requirement.  A session with me includes a footbath, foot scrub, warm 'booties' and heated stones.

Pressure, stretch and movement is used to work through the foot methodically.  It will be a gentle, but firm, pressure; within your comfort zone.
