What is Cuong-Nhu?

Cuong-Nhu means "hard-soft" in Vietnamese. Cuong-Nhu offers a wide variety of techniques which are the result of blending seven styles of martial arts from the hardest to the softest. It is a complete program in martial arts training, combining principles from:

  • Shotokan Karate (Japan)
  • Judo (Japan)
  • Aikido (Japan)
  • Wing Chun Kung Fu (China)
  • Tai Chi Chuan (China)
  • Vovinam (Vietnam)
  • Boxing (United States)
Cuong-Nhu was founded by Grandmaster Ngo Dong in 1965 by combining the hard and soft styles of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Japanese martial arts with the principles of American boxing. The first school was founded in the city of Hue, Vietnam. Grandmaster Dong came to the United States in 1971 and founded the Cuong-Nhu Karate Club at the University of Florida in Gainesville. The Club has grown steadily and become the Cuong Nhu Oriental Martial Arts Association with schools all over the world.
