The
Harp and Shamrock Ceili Club is dedicated to Irish Ceili dancing
(similar to American Square Dancing) and no prior Irish dance
experience is necessary. The Harp and Shamrock Ceili Club
is open to anyone who wants to dance, even if you already dance with
an Irish
Dance
School. We will
typically use CD’s to play the dance music however, if you are a
musician and would like to play for Ceili Club meetings we welcome
your talents for any part of the evening that you are willing to
play.
We are currently renting studio
space at the California
Ballet Studio
(4819
Ronson Ct San Diego, CA 92111) and will be meeting the second and fourth Fridays of
each month.
We ask that each dancer pay $2
per person per Friday to pay for studio time. The
annual membership fee is $10 per person with a $20 family maximum.
Membership fees will be used
to cover any Club expenses that benefit the entire group studio
rental, membership cards, etc.
Prospective members may attend their first two Ceili Club
meetings without having to pay the membership fee. We’re
sure you’ll have so much fun that you’ll be ready to officially join
the club on your third visit!
The
Ceili Club will run from 7-9pm and
we will spend this time learning and dancing Ceili (group) dances
that involve 3-32 people per dance. Bring your family and friends get
ready to have some fun! Please dress comfortably, wear
appropriate footwear (Irish dance shoes, jazz sneakers, or tennis
shoes) and bring water to drink. There are restrooms and drinking
fountains at the studio. Children are welcome to join in the
dancing.
If the children are not old enough to participate in the
group dances they are welcome to watch and enjoy the music and
social atmosphere. We do ask that you please keep a
close eye on any of your children who are not dancing so that
they do not hurt themselves by running into the dancers.
