How to Build a Sleigh Bed

It has been almost three years in the making, but through several evolutions, revolutions, and failures I have managed to make every mistake possible and develop a system to construct a curved panel sleigh bed with amazing results and minimal effort.  This is a bed that can be easily built in a couple of weekends out of readily available materials on a limited budget.  The tools and parts needed to build this bed can be found in most well stocked tool boxes, or in most cases in your neighbor’s well stocked tool box.  I will not lie to you, building this bed was a chore, but after settling on the final design(sometime last August) it went together in no time.  I was amazed how quickly I turned a pile of scrap lumber into a bed I am willing to attach my name to.

You can see the curvature of the end rails in the picture below.  This website is meant to inform, educate, and to prevent users from making the mistakes I did.  I offer both the full scale plans and templates to help machine the rails, but no information is missing for the pages that follow.  I would be happy to post the results of anyone who builds a bed with this plan, with or without purchasing the plans or templates.  Since the project began as such a frustrating one, I do not have pictures of the early stages.  I will recreate a sample bed to show step by step how the pieces are machined and go together.  I hope you enjoy this project and am glad to answer any questions you might have.
