Agenda for 2009
This year's adventure begins on Wednesday, June 24th at 1:00 p.m. when we will meet in Tucson, AZ and drive to the Havasupai Indian Reservation. We will return to Tucson on Sunday, June 28th at approximately 9:30 p.m.
| Wednesday: June 24th, 2009 | |
| 1:00 p.m. | Meet in Tucson, AZ at the Winterhaven Square Shopping Center at East Ft. Lowell Rd. and N. Country Club Rd. (SE Corner) |
| 1:30 p.m. | Depart Tucson, AZ and drive to Prescott, AZ. |
| 5:00 p.m. | Dinner at Gurley Street Grill - 230 W. Gurley St. Prescott, AZ. Phone: (928) 445-3388 |
| 8:00 p.m. | Arrive in Seligman, AZ to spend the night at The Historic Route 66 Motel at 500 W. Highway 66; directly across from the post office. Phone: (928) 422-3204 |
| Thursday: June 25th, 2009 | |
| 5:30 a.m. | Depart Seligman, AZ driving to Tribal Route 18 and then to Hualapai Hilltop located on the Havasupai Indian Reservation. |
| 7:00 a.m. | Arrive at Hualapai trailhead, load packs on horses, and prepare for the hike. |
| 7:30 a.m. | Start hiking to Supai Village. It is approximately 3 hours of easy to moderate hiking in scenic terrain. We will experience red rocks and majestic canyons. |
| 11:30 a.m. | Arrive in Supai Village near the bottom of the canyon. Check in with the Havasupai camping office; receive your camping permits (reservations are required to receive a permit). Have breakfast at the village restaurant. |
| 1:00 p.m. | After our meal, we will continue our journey to the campgrounds. We will walk along a stream and see the spectacular waterfalls and the majestic Havasu Canyon. We will then set up camp at the Havasupai Campgrounds near Havasu Falls. |
| Friday: June 26th, 2009 | |
| 9:00 a.m. | A morning hike to the spectacular 200-foot Mooney Falls. Next, we hike to the sheltered and pristine Amphitheater. Then, we continue our adventure, hiking through Havasu Canyon to the secluded and majestic Beaver Falls. This 8-mile round-trip hike goes in and out of the stream and through lush vegetation. It is extremely scenic and beautiful. Be sure to bring a camera. |
| Optional Hike | An optional hike would be to continue past Beaver Falls another few miles to the Colorado River. If you decide to hike all the way to the Colorado River, be sure to get an early start and bring a water purification device. |
| Saturday: June 27th, 2009 | |
| This is a day to relax and enjoy the Havasupai scenery. Take photographs, swim at Havasu Falls, explore Mooney Falls and the Amphitheatre, or simply relax at the campgrounds. |
| Sunday: June 28th, 2009 | |
| 4:00 a.m. | Have a light breakfast at our campsite and then break camp. |
| 5:30 a.m. | Prepare your overnight packs for the horses and hike out of the campgrounds to Supai village, where you can enjoy a complete breakfast at the village restaurant. Continue hiking back to the top of the Hualapai trailhead. Drink plenty of water. Note: The last mile of this return hike is more difficult, because the trail climbs up through the switchbacks. |
| 11:30 a.m. | Arrive at the top of the trailhead at Hualapai Hilltop. Relax, load the vehicles with your belongings, change clothes and depart. |
| 2:30 p.m. | Arrive in Seligman, AZ. Have lunch at Westside Lilo's Café located at 415 W. Chino in Seligman, AZ. Call Lilo's Café (928) 422-5456. After lunch, stop for an optional shower at the KOA Campgrounds located at 801 E. Highway 66. You may call the campgrounds for details at (928) 422-3358. Continue driving back to Tucson, AZ. |
