Love One Another

We could write on this forever. What is single biggest group of commandments in the Torah? The rules governing our conduct one to another. They form a couple of categories:     Positive (You shall)     Negative (you shall not).

Hebrews 12:9
9Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

Punitive rulings fall in the negative, whereas the conditionals (when you...) tend to fall in the positive (but not always). There are more negative commandments than positive! Why? Because HASHEM knows man — He understands the poor behavior we show one another, and has therefore ruled against such behavior.

Commandment 458
Vayikra 23:22
22When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not remove completely the corners of your field as you reap and you shall not gather the gleanings of your harvest; for the poor and the proselyte shall you leave them; I am HASHEM , your God.

To the institution of the Feast of Pentecost is annexed a repetition of that law, by which they were required to leave the gleanings of their fields, and the corn that grew on the ends of the butts, for the poor. It may come in here as a thing which the priests must take occasion to remind the people of, when they brought their first-fruits, intimating to them, that to obey even in this small matter was better than sacrifice; and that unless they were obedient, their offerings should not be accepted. It also taught them that the joy of harvest should express itself in charity to the poor, who must have their due out of what we have, as well as God His. They that are truly sensible of the mercy they receive from God, will without grudging show mercy to the poor.

Mizmor 41:2
2Praisworthy is he who contemplates the needy, on the day of evil HASHEM will deliver him.

Ur 6:1-2

1Now it happened on the second Sabbath after the first that He went through the grain fields. And His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate them, rubbing them in their hands. 2And some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?

2 Corinthians 9:5
5Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a grudging obligation.

Commandment 239
Vayikra 19:9-10
9When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not complete your reaping to the corner of your field, 10You shall not pick the undeveloped twigs of your vineyard; and the fallen fruit of your vineyard for the poor and the proselyte shall you leave them — I am HASHEM , your God.

Vayikra 19:9
9When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not complete your reaping to the corner of your field, and the gleanings of your harvest you shall not take.

Vayikra 23:22

22When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not remove completely the corners of your field as you reap and you shall not gather the gleanings of your harvest; for the poor and proselyte shall you leave them; I am HASHEM , your God.

Commandment 241
Vayikra 19:9

Commandment 242
Vayikra 19:9
9When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not complete your reaping to the corner of your field, and the gleanings of your harvest you shall not take.

In what code of laws merely human, is a requisition to be found so counteracting to selfishness, so encouraging to liberality, and so beneficently considering to the poor and needy? But the Mosaic dispensation, like the Christian, breathed with love to God, and benevolence to man. To the honor of the public and charitable spirit of the English, this merciful law is, in general, as much attended to as if it had been incorporated with the gospel. . And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.

Commandment 243
Vayikra 19:10
10You shall not pick the undeveloped twigs of your vineyard; and the fallen fruit of your vineyard you shall not gather; for the poor and the proselyte shall you leave them — I am HASHEM , your God.

Commandment 244
Vayikra 19:10
10You shall not pick the undeveloped twigs of your vineyard; and the fallen fruit of your vineyard you shall not gather; for the poor and the proselyte shall you leave them — I am HASHEM , your God.

Commandment 245
Vayikra 19:10
10You shall not pick the undeveloped twigs of your vineyard; and the fallen fruit of your vineyard you shall not gather; for the poor and the proselyte shall you leave them — I am HASHEM , your God.

Commandment 246
Vayikra 19:10
10You shall not pick the undeveloped twigs of your vineyard; and the fallen fruit of your vineyard you shall not gather; for the poor and the proselyte shall you leave them — I am HASHEM , your God.

Poverty and destitution were never a part of God's plan for mankind. Provision for even the person who was not a member of the community was provided. The United States has been blessed by God yet we throw away MILLIONS OF TONS of edible food from our supermarkets each year in this country. Why? NO PROFIT.

Vayikra 25:6
6The Sabbath produce of the land shall be yours to eat, for you, for your slave, and for your maidservant; and for your laborer and for you resident who dwell with you.

Commandment 248
D’varim 24:19
19When you reap your harvest in your field, and you forget a bundle in the field, you shall not turn back to take it;

Commandment 247
D’varim 24:19
it shall be for the proselyte, the orphan, and the widow, so that HASHEM , your God, will bless you in all your handiwork.

Ur 14:13-14
13But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. 14And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.
Ur 6:35
35But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

Yochanan Rishon 3:17-19
17But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 19And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.

We could go on forever, but I'll let the words speak for themselves! Literally, these pages on this column could go on, and on, and on, because there's close to 100 commandments governing loving your neighbor, and just how to do it.
