Sh’mot 12:16-17
16On the first day shall be a holy convocation, and on the seventh day shall be a holy convocation for you, no work may be done on them except for what must be eaten for any person — only that may be done for you.

17You shall safeguard the matzos, for on this very day I will have taken your legions out of the land of Egypt; you shall observe this day for your generations as an eternal decree.

  1. On the first day of the Exodus, Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth.  Succoth , as with all of encampments for Israel in their 40 year trek through the wilderness, are not actual places but explain what happened at the places they stopped. Succoth means tents or booths. Later on at Sinai, Eloheim will create a separate feast called Chag Sukkot. It is a designated Sabbath or day of complete rest.
  1. The seventh day of the Exodus Israel camped at Marah. Once again we have a designated Sabbath, a day of complete rest. Here we see the power of Eloheim manifested when the bitter waters were made sweet when a certain tree was placed in the water. What a better way to describe the sweetness of the fourth commandment to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy unto HASHEM.
  1. This is a perpetual ordinance. The Hebrew word is עוֹלָם - olam - means eternal, without end.
