A Lamb Without Blemish

Sh’mot 12:5
5An
unblemished lamb or kid, a male, within its first year
shall it be for you; from the
sheep or goats shall you take it. |
Sh’mot
12:5
states that the lamb shall be without blemish, a year-old mail (literally a
male of the first year). The first born of all animals was dedicated to

Eloheim.
Commandment 426
Sh’mot 13
1HASHEM
spoke to Moses, saying, 2Sanctify to Me every
firstborn, the first issue of every womb among the Children of Israel, of man and beast,
is Mine.
11It
shall come to pass, when
HASHEM
will bring you
to the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and your forefathers, and He will have
given it to you; 12then you shall set apart every
first issue of the womb to
HASHEM,
and of every
first issue that is dropped by livestock that belong to you, the males are
HASHEM's. |
It has traditionally been contended that Yeshua's ministry
lasted three years. We have to bear in mind that Yeshua kept the Torah to the
letter. Careful reading of Yochanan's account of Yeshua's earthly life will show
that His ministry lasted only one year. This assertion can be seen by the phrase
"up to Jerusalem" which occurs only three times in Yochanan's account.
These three journeys to Jerusalem coincide with the three annual pilgrimages required by
Jewish males each year to celebrate Chag
Ha'Matzah, Chag
Shavu'ot and Chag
Sukkot. Thus Yeshua was a "male of the first year"
of His ministry when He was offered as the Pesach
sacrifice.
