They Shall Put Blood on
the Door Posts

Sh’mot 12:7
7They shall take some of its blood and place it on the two doorposts and on
the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. |
- Blood must be shed. Evidence of death. When the angel of
HASHEM saw the blood he passed over the house. When the centurion came
to break the legs of Yeshua, he found him apparently dead. To
ascertain His death, he thrust a spear into His side. The blood and water coming from His
side assured the centurion of His death.
- Blood must be put on the two door posts and the lintel. Evidence of application. Absence
of the blood brought immediate judgment (death of the first born).
- Blood
is applied in a specific manner:
Sh’mot 12:22
22You shall take a bundle of hyssop and dip
it into the blood that is in the basin, and as for you, no man shall leave the entrance of
his house until morning. |
The blood from the slain
lamb was placed at the basin or threshold of the doorway, the two doorposts and the
lintel.
Blood
was to be applied with hyssop. Hyssop comes from a lowly shrub. Humility and lowliness of
faith applies the blood of Yeshua.
- Ephesians 2
8For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of
yourselves; it is the gift of Eloheim,
- Hebrews 11
28By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he
who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
- The
blood must be applied in faith and obedience to the Word of
HASHEM
through the Gospel given to Moses.
The word "basin" mentioned in the passage is
translated from the Hebrew word "saf" meaning "a trench"
which was routinely dug in front of all outside doors to keep flooding from occurring in
time of rain. When the sacrifices were made the blood was caught first in this ditch at
the base of the door and from there was applied to the sides and top of the doorframe with
hyssop. So all four sides of the door were protected with the blood of the Pesach lamb.
What a graphic picture Yeshua was painting for us when he said of himself, I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go
in and out, and find pasture.
Yochanan 10:9
