3.) FOLD-UP FOOT PLATFORM

I wanted something stout. It had to be strong enough to open doors, and thick enough not to scar them. It had to be rigid enough for people to stand on, so it had to be mounted to the frame. It had to be short enough to get into tight places, so it needed a formed shape to clear the casters. And it had to flip up to get into really tight restroom stalls.

This foot platform is all that, and more.

Overall length of the chair is a little under 39” with the platform down. With it up, well, it folds up between the caster spindle tubes. Without sawing the chair in half, it isn’t going to get any shorter.

The platform is made from 16ga steel welded into a box structure. The V-shaped mount is made from 3/16” steel. It is securely attached to the frame via four (two per side) socket head capscrews. The 3/8” wide groove in the top of the frame rail accepts standard machinist style 5/16-18 T-nuts. They cost less than $3 each at any local industrial supply store that handles machine shop supplies.
