WHEELCHAIR MODIFICATION: Quickie S-626

1.) SEAT REPLACEMENT

This modification was originally done by the Quickie factory since a G-424 style seat had never been mounted to a S-626… or so they said. This was a farce and serves to show how far removed from the user Quickie has become. Required seat height dimensions were given to Quickie, after all being able to get ones legs under a table to eat IS important. Obviously Quickie doesn't think so. The top of the seat height was over 24"! Far too high. Took a month for the "modification" to arrive. And when it finally did, the total modification amounted to Quickie drilling six holes in a standard aluminum seat pan and bolting down the G-424 seat. That was it. I waited a month for that? I was livid.

Anyway, here is what it looked like with the G-424 seat installed and all adjustments set for as low a seat height as possible. Also the seat and sub-frame was adjusted rearward 2-1/2" for better turning and shorter stance. I live in a relatively small house and getting into every room is important.

It is also worth mentioning that the lightest springs Quickie supplies are for a 175 pound person. How anyone can get that big without getting their legs under a table is a mystery to me. Anyway, lighter spring rate springs can be bought (or in my case specially made) from local spring manufacturers.

If the seat height doesn't bother you then the above mounting will be adequate. But obviously I had to redo the seat mounting to have lunch at Mexicali Border, one of my favorite Tex-Mex restaurants. Their appetizer sampler alone is worth the effort of the extra modification.

Go to item three to see how I lowered the seat height to 20-1/2", slightly lower when I'm seated.
