ORB-12 was launched from our MA2 site at 0854 CDT. The
chase crew sat at a truck stop half way along the predicted flight
path as the balloon meandered around in an almost cloudless sky.
Burst occurred at 88,547 feet. This was lower than expected, but
it was a new record for ORB. The chase crew was 2 miles from the
landing site and the payload was found within minutes. It had
landed in an open field about 50 feet from the road. There was no
damage to the payload like we have experienced in the past. We
made a change in the distances in the payload string, but it will
take more flight with the same configuration to determine if it
has any effect on post burst trauma.
All systems were nominal throughout the flight.
