Daylily Sources

This list started as a compilation of recommendations from the Daylily Forum. I started collecting this list in 2003 to use as a resource for future reference... and continued it this past fall through Tinkers Forum. I have taken various recommendations from the forums in order to refer back to them for future purchase considerations. Please feel free to share any positive experiences to share with other daylily lovers :)

Aren't I Pretty Daylily Garden	"My order came today from Bill & Betty Siau. I got extra nice double fans of FOOLED ME, ULTRAVIOLET MOOD and got SILVER TRUMPET as a bonus."
	"Almost all of my registered daylilies came (and plan to still come) from Bill and Betty. I am fortunate in that we live in the same area - so I get to go and pick mine up in person. If you can pick up - she grows in pots. I still have some potted from last summer that wintered well and have really increased (and bloomed well in the pots, too) I just went last week and picked up my order. She told me she had a lot to ship. Really nice people. Most of the ones I just purchased were 3 to 4 fans or more. Some she said I really needed to go ahead and separate - probably 6 fans or more - you get what is in the pot! She is always great at answering my questions, has even delivered a few to me at work, and great at making suggestions when you are not sure quite what you want. On top of all that, I have found her prices very reasonable - especially for potted. "
Art Gallery Gardens	"From the Lambertsons I got gigantic multiple fans of MAGNIFICENT HUMMINGBIRD, SETI and BLUE THROAT, along with a multiple fan bonus of ADA MAY MUSICK. I was not expecting so many fans, especially on newer intros. And Rachel Lambertson was so nice to deal with. "
Ashwood Garden	"Richard Norris is the best! I received oodles of seedlings today... all of which I am thrilled with! Healthy happy and several of them are quite large! I stand impressed!"
	"I received my plants from Richard Norris yesterday. WOW! Great plants! Bonus plants with the plants I ordered, both extra seedlings and bonus seedlings with the seedlings I won. I'm impressed, grateful and almost giddy!"
	"New for me this year was Richard Norris, who sent beautiful plants that were so clean I swear he ran them through the dishwasher. "

Bell's Daylily Garden	"OOh...My order from Bell's Daylily Garden arrived. The fans were all huge and they were all triple fans or better. I wonder how in the world they get the fans as huge as they do. Steroids I reckon! I got Carpathian Cavalier, Gerda Brooker, Lemon Berry Frost, Sabine Baur and Skinwalker. Tim threw in Blueberries and Cream for a bonus! Wow, I can't wait to see these beauties! The fans were all planted in their new home within hours. I am very happy with my order. "
Bluegrass Daylilies	"We have received great daylily plants from Bluegrass Daylily Gardens in Shelbyville, Ky. Plants were large, healthy and chuck and Jenny were generous in their quantity. We had a great time looking at all their gardens and took our daylilies home with us.They also have a web site that easy to navigate."
Bluegrass Daylily Farm	"I did get my little order from Bluegrass Gardens this week and was very pleased with the quality and condition of the plants sent. David and Laura do a fine job and they have really had their hands full this year what with taking on the awesome responsibility of being the exclusive state side distributor of Mahieu introductions and everything else they've been through this year personally. They get a AAA+ rating from me!"

Blue Ridge Daylilies	"This is the first time I ever ordered from Blue Ridge but I can tell you it will not be the last. My order arrived today and I just could barely believe it as I unpacked my order. CLOWN PARADE 5 huge fans MARILYN LEE BOCK 4 huge fans NORTHERN NOCTURNE 5 large fans TALLEQUAH FLAME 4 large fans CARNIVAL IN MEXICO which was 4 huge fans. -As if all those extra fans were not enough, on an order of 4 daylilies he sent me 4 bonus plants!!! 4 !!!! INDY HEARTSTOPPER 3 nice fans CAROLINA SUGAR DADDY 2 huge fans YOU GLOW GIRL 3 nice fans FLAME RESISTAND 2 large fans; I can't get over the quality of these daylilies and the extra gifts."
	"So many extra fans that now I have to rethink where I'm going to plant them. Right now they are in pots. I had only paid for double fans but got lots more. I thought I would try them out with a small order and see how things went. Couldn't be happier. VERY clean plants, huge roots and fans, well packaged and good follow-up on when they were shipping. I got DANKIE, ESPIRIT DE CORP and as a gift they sent several fans of ST. HELENA YOUTH."
Chigger Creek Daylilies	"Despite my urging Ed to wait until next year, Wednesday I received a very generous order from Chigger Creek Daylilies, not double fans of BLUE RIBBON ROUNDUP, but quadruple! And were they ever fat and healthy!"
Crochet Daylily Garden	"I received a very nice order of diploids from Clarence Crochet, and after discussing with him my hybridizing goals, he sent a bonus plant PINK EMBRACE, which I am surprised I hadn't selected myself after reading his description of it! It's always nice to have fellow hybridizers looking out for us when we don't know how to look out for ourselves!"
Cottage Gardens	"I got plants today from Cottage Gardens in Medina NY and they were large fans, fully rooted and bright green- more Child's cultivars for my collection and a beautiful bonus."
Countryside Daylilies	"I know many daylily-aholics don't live near daylily gardens, and find it difficult to get away, but by all means, if you have the opportunity, please go and visit gardens first hand. It is so different than ordering online from pictures. I visited my local "enabling nursery", Countryside Daylilies, about a hour and a half from me. They have a huge selection, and its great to see daylilies from all different hybridizers. Not to mention the fact they have some Ed Brown kids to DIE for... I purchased 4 daylilies that I would never have purchased from pictures. It is so different actually seeing them in person. Go visit! You wont be sorry."
Crintonic Garden
Critter Creek	"I just brought in a box from Critter Creek Farm and have already put the plants in buckets to soak, before posting this note. I am so pleased with what I got from them. All plants looked freshly dug - no yellowed leaves on the fans at all, everything was very clean too. Each plant was multiple fans - 3 to 5. And the Summa Cum Laude fans are HUGE. All three of them. This must be one huge plant. I was looking for a big ruffly yellow and this might just be what I was looking for. Each fan is the size of a small package of celery and I am not exaggerating here. I had to use two hands to pick up the three fans. Now, I can't wait to plant them and get them started growing in my garden!"
Day Bloomer's Garden	"Received my order yesterday of 22 Munsons and they were nice green and healthy plants. Most of them were 3 fans instead of 2. I've ordered from Jane and Ralph several times before and always been pleased."
Daylilies By the Pond	"Daylilies by the Pond, 781 State Route 61, E. Norwalk, Ohio 419-663-4394. Sara's fans were huge, double fans arrived with 5 or 6 fans, very, very generous!!!!!! I shared with Sara how delighted I was with her plants and mentioned they were better than the southern growers. She was surprised and happy because she didn't know if she was able to compete, believe me does and can. Sara is very easy to work with, making the whole experience a pleasure. Sara has a web site now, you will find an extensive listing of daylilies, hosta, and iris. I would rate Triple AAA!!!!!"
Don Herr Daylilies	"Just as I was congratulating myself on having all my daylilies planted earlier this afternoon two big boxes show up UPS and its my daylilies from Don Herr in PA. I ordered 14 of his daylilies including some 2008 intros plus I put a list of four other daylilies in my order and said any of them would be my bonus choices. Well, he sent all four of my picks plus two more so I got six gorgeous bonus plants with my order, one of them being a 2008 intro of his. The plants are all really huge, again great quality. Am exceptionally please again. Of course I am going to be planting again tomorrow."
Eclectic Gardens	"I received my order from Eclectic Gardens in Oregon today. The plants were carefully packaged, and spotlessly clean. Every cultivar I ordered arrived as triple or quadruple fans, with great bonuses, too. I was thrilled to receive plants I actually wanted or needed for bonuses. I ordered from these people on the recommendation of some of you here at GW. I heartily second it! I couldn't be more pleased with an order. As another plus, these people are super nice and very communicative, too. I give them an A+! "
Favorite Things Daylily Garden	"Healthy happy plants equal a very happy collector! Gregg sent wonderful plants with extra fans on each! A++ quality, service and friendship :) Doesn't get better than that!"
	"I wanted to say that I found my order from Gregg and June Connell sitting on my porch tonight when I came home from work. It was full of the biggest fans I have ever received! I was starting to think I would never be able to pay for my order - things just aren't going my way lately - and I had ordered plants that were "Big Deals" to me; Mildred Mitchell, Southern Coral, etc. For me, those are the most expensive, cutting edge plants I have yet purchased, a big leap of faith for me...well, the MM, which I most desired, was the largest two fans of the bunch. AND bonus fans of another plant I wanted, too. All the fans are huge & ultra healthy. I wanted to praise them for the super job they did of raising a gal's spirits today! Thanks folks!"

	"I must echo these comments. I feel so fortunate! Not only did I get to meet many of my Tinker's "bud's" on Saturday and see Tim Bell's lovely gardens, but I also had the pleasure of visiting with Gregg and June Connell on my way into and out of Georgia. Does Gregg know how to treat his customers? You betcha! If you've seen Gregg's website, you know that he SAYS he sells double fans. DOUBLE FANS -- MY FOOT!!! NOT ONE of my purchases was only a double. And there were a couple on my wish list that he refused to sell me because they were too small -- so he just GAVE them to me (still multiple fans, but just smaller ones). I came home a VERY happy camper with multiple CLUMPS of daylilies. Will I make the trip again? YOU BETCHA!"
	"I can also speak of excellent service from Gregg. I received an order from him six weeks ago, about ten plants. All plants were green and healthy and most were more than double fans. I had wanted ADMIRAL'S BRAID but he promptly emailed to say he was out of it. I substituted ED BROWN. When I opened the box he had sent ED BROWN and ADMIRAL'S BRAID! He enclosed a note saying that he found some AB for me and gave me that as a bonus and another bonus! I will definitely order again from him. Thanks Gregg!! "
	"I know that many of you know about this garden, owned by our very own Gcon, Gregg Connell but I'd never bought from him until a few weeks ago. Got sent to Atlanta back last month for a training session and determined that my co-worker and I would drive down from KY. Now me being as I am, thought immediately that I-75 runs right by Gregg's place and even though nothing's in bloom would I let a little thing like that stop me? Of course not. Called Gregg, had a wonderful conversation and told him about what time we'd be dropping in... Now I hadn't planned on buying a huge bunch but Gregg was such a good salesman that I ended up with a trunkful. Got home and started taking stuff out of the box and here were all these bonuses! What a treat. All the babies are in the ground and looking great. Folks, if you're going down I-75 you really need to stop in and see Gregg. I can only imagine what his garden looks like in full bloom. Looked pretty darned good with nary a bloom in sight! I'm sure he'll see another order from me in the future. Thanks Gregg!"
	"I, too, bought plants from him this past winter/spring. I have been thrilled with their vigor, and he sent me one as a bonus, one that I had "scratched" off my list, trying to save $$. None of my fans bloomed this year, but the increase was dramatic - well worth every penny. Mildred Mitchell went from two fans to five, typical of all the increase I saw. And they are sooo health & big. I will always order from him!"
	"Our own GCON, Gregg Connell, went out of his way to send me a bonus he knew I wanted, after he had already mailed my order with two other bonuses. His Favorite Things Daylily Garden is definitely on my list of favorite things."
	"Perfect plants, unconditional friendship... that is what Gregg offers his Tinker pals! After finding out that my package was lost in the postal system, Gregg not only replaced the ordered plants but then added enough plants to FILL THE BOX!!! Healthy beautiful plants... four years worth are now gracing my gardens! This is where I look first for the plants I am looking for... cannot recommend this man more highly!"
Floyd Cove	"I have been sitting on the kitchen floor with my mouth agape. You just wouldn't believe what's in this box! Yes, they're big, everyone knows they come big from Florida. BUT BUT they sent me a clump of SHORES OF TIME- this is a $200 dl- and I'm having trouble counting, but there are AT LEAST five fans in this "single fan" and I'm sitting here beside myself, hello self, I can't believe this! Plus there are some double and triple fans of other new intros, plus a couple beautiful new intros for bonuses....oh my goodness get the smelling salts! Thank you Patrick and Grace! You may have taken a few years off my life, but it's worth it!"
	"Aren't they the greatest! They are always real generous. I wrote him last month asking if they are sure they didn't send leeks by mistake."
	"Ordered 2 new intros from the Stamile's. The box came today & I wondered why such a big box for 2 plants? Then I picked up the box off the front porch & couldn't believe how heavy it was for just 2 plants. Well, they did put in a bonus plant & an extra fan of 1 plant but OH MY GOD! I have never seen fans the size of these babies. You can not close your hand around the bottom of the fan, it takes 2 hands!!!"
	"For the first time I saw a unbelievable collection of the latest and greatest cutting edge Introductions... They are to die for in my opinion. I decide right there it was time to upgrade my hybridizing plants once and for all time. When I arrived home I made my first order from Patrick and Grace Stamile, at a considerable investment by my standards. A huge box was waiting when I arrived home today. These plant were huge with wonderful roots. They looked like they were just dug this morning. The roots were moist and very healthy."

	"Received my FC order today too. Mine was a much smaller order, just 2 cultivars that were not brand new (2005/2004) and I even used my AHS voucher. Both plants arrived as clumps of 5-6 rather than double fans & the fans were large so that was bonus enough in my mind but then they also threw in a clump of one of the plants that I had listed as an alternate if they needed to substitute, also a 2005 cultivar. Needless to say I am more than pleased."
Frank Smith Daylilies	"I got his 2006 spring collection. All the plants were very large and he included MISS IZY as a bonus, which I didn't expect since most collections are sold net. I just went back to re-read your post and, actually, he didn't send FAME yet because he said the fans were small. The rest were large, though, including BRIDEY."
	"I also received huge plants from Frank Smith. Really gorgeous fans."

	"Well I received my DLs from Mr. Smith. I received three fans. Each one has a base as big around as my wrist. I don't have the biggest wrists, but still. These fans are huge. The two intros (Bridey and Bluegrass Music) had scapes and each were splitting into another fan. I will have increase in no time. The bonus was Vintner's Treasure. Fantastic. Now if I could just get them to plant and weed themselves...LOL. For that kind a money they should be able to. I can not wait to see them bloom...maybe they rebloom. I dunno. 	"Despite negative reviews (heard once the order was already in place), I found excellent email communications, healthy plants arrived on time in perfect condition, along with a generous bonus; I will update on the health of the plants~ but they arrived healthy."
	" I received my order from Frank Smith. I ordered 3 of his most recent intros, and would have to say that I'm very pleased with the plants he sent. I realize that there are others here who have posted that they weren't happy with what they received from him. This is my first order from him and the plants he sent are very nice looking plants."
Gail Austin Garden Perennials	"I just have to brag on the shipment I just got from her - it is wonderful! This is my first time buying from her, and most of the fans were sent as triples (sold as DF). I don't know how to link her site here, but check it out if you get a chance! One of the daylilies has a nice, healthy, scape with buds on it - she didn't cut it off, but used a box big enough to accommodate it! She asks for a list of preferred bonus plants, my first choice was STARTLE, and she said no problem. My order was by no means large, but I was treated like a millionaire."
Gardens by Judy Ann	"I just wanted to say I received my daylilies that I had ordered from Judy Ann!! And wanted to say " I am more than pleased with my daylilies I received from her!! They were sent to me healthy with plenty of roots!! With pink ribbons wrap around their labels. I even received a triple!! The way they were sent- I can feel they were sent with the love she has for her daylilies !! And that's what it's all about !!"

Gaskins Daylily Garden	"I got my first order of the year, from Gaskins Daylily Garden in Nashville, GA ! A bit earlier than I expected (and in time for the St Patrick's Day snow ), but I did want to get started early and have accommodations for them. I am very pleased at the nice big healthy fans and great root systems, and a nice bonus plant! Mary has been very nice to order from, and they have good prices on things I wanted."
Gene Wynn's Daylily Garden	"I received a very nice order from Wynn's daylily garden. I have ordered from him 3 times and think he has the best prices any where. He always sends big healthy plants with extra fans and a more than generous bonus."
	"Yesterday I drove from my home in central Florida to the panhandle to Gene Wynn's daylily garden. This was quite a expedition for me- over a four hour drive. I also bought the daylilies I got last year from Gene, after reading about him on this forum. I had a great time, and learned so much! Rather than bore you with all the details of my time up there, I'll cut to the chase and tell you what I bought. Gene has a beautiful daylily garden. He has his own beds which are interspersed with other plants, as yours are. The plants he sells are already in pots, in alphabetical order."
Gold Coast Daylily	"I got an order from Bonnie Holley of Goldcoast today...should have made photos of the huge fans, but didn't think about it. Honestly, they were about as big around as my wrist. I've never seen larger fans!! :) I already got one order from her, and they were the same way. They sure grow them big out there in California!! "

Greywood Farms	"Third year in a row of very very generous clumps! Ordered Japanese Iris as well... received extra fans of EVERYTHING plus two Japanese Iris!! Instant garden... excellent communications and a wonderful giving seller! Highly recommended "
	"I received an order yesterday from Darlyn at Greywood Farms that I just have to tell you about! She is in Massachusetts so the fans weren't "leek" sized Florida fans but they were HUGE for a northern garden. If it wasn't pouring rain, I'd go out and take some pictures to show you. I ordered double fans and she gave me well-packaged clumps, at least 4 fans of each with some of them being 7 fans! I requested a bonus and she gave me a four fan clump of it. Not only does she have great plants, but she is a warm, friendly person and a talented hybridizer. I ordered one of her introductions after seeing it at a local garden, GREYWOODS GREAT DANA. I am a total bagel lover but I completely fell in love with this one and HAD to have it!! This was my first order from her and I am definitely impressed."
	"Well we got surprised today...Our order came from Darlyn this afternoon. In a nutshell I'm tickled pink. We keep hearing Northern Grown plants being smaller, but this year I've received from 3 Northern growers; plants that rival most of the Southern Plants I've received. Darlyn sent 4 fans of each that we ordered, nice fresh plants that looked just dug up. Good roots with nice new growth. The most fans are at least 1.5" in diameter. She must of really built good fertile beds for her kids. For a bonus she sent 2 plants. Guidry's Daylily Garden	"TET LAVENDER BLUE BABY, I absolutely had to have this plant. I got it from Pat Guidry, it is very nice and he sent VATICAN CITY (something I was thinking about buying) and FOR ANNABELLE, which I was unfamiliar with but after looking at the photo in the database I love it, EDGED WITH NO EYE!"
	"I ordered a number of plants from Guidry's Daylily Garden when their seasonal special sale was on. My order arrived today and I was floored when I opened the box. Most of the fans and double fans were almost as big as my wrist. I was expecting single fans of most of the CV's I ordered, and found that they shipped many double and even triple fans. The bonus plants they sent were really cool too. I just love it when an order comes in and the plants look this good. :-) "
Iron Gate	"Iron Gate sent huge fans too, which I was not expecting since they are in North Carolina and not Florida. And three bonuses from my wish list, including a clump of the Ufo FLY SO FREE!"

	"I received my auction wins today plus some others that I ordered from Kaye. I was REALLY UPSET! I think that she wants me to spend the rest of the week digging holes to plant those MONSTER fans. Seriously, Kaye sent me some of the biggest, healthiest looking plants that I have ever seen. And on top of that she sent two really nice bonuses and some variegated Artemisia. Le Petit Jardin	"I was absolutely blown away when I opened a huge box containing a collection won on the auction from Gavin Petit. I kind of dropped a hint about what kinds of Petit daylilies I already had - and what I was really into - he sent just the bonus I was hoping for - FORMAL APPEARANCE. And then he threw in another very very nice beauty!! The value of the bonuses alone was higher than what I paid for my 4 gorgeous cvs. And the plants were HUGE - I felt like I was digging a well to plant them, many with scapes. So even if I manage to price myself out of his future auctions by saying this - keep your eye out for them! They're great! And they help Gavin pay his college bills. Gavin and Ted are very generous and now I'm an even bigger fan!"
	"I received a massive GARY COLBY last week. I'm pretty sure it's the biggest fan I've ever seen anywhere."

	"On my way back driving my mothers car home from her Florida winter home I picked up Ted's Poly Collection I had ordered. "Magical Indeed" and "Hypnotized." Nice large sized plants. Dug and plopped into a pot while I was there. 1 is 2 fans with scapes on both...the other is 1 large fan with 1 small fan with 1 scape. Didn't think a bonus came with the collections, but he gave me a bonus which is Expensive Taste - 3 fans - (2005 intro). Had a nice chat with him between hybridizing some plants. Sure wish John Peat would've been there, but he was just getting through Customs about the time I was leaving. Maybe next year."
	"I got my order from Ted last week. Nature's Poetry was at least a 5 fan solid clump with a couple smaller ones coming on. Lady Betty Frezt was 4 very nice fans with a bonus of Expensive Taste. All were huge plants and massive roots! I was very satisfied with my order."

To begin, I had been emailing them for a while, trying to decide on a purchase - then they sent me the info on the sale - then I called, and spoke with Pat. (It was a two for one sale) The only condition was that the plants came from a predetermined list, and the freebie had to be equal to, or less than, the cost of the purchased plant. I picked out Spacecoast Cranberry Breeze, and got Spartacus Adorned with it, I also picked out Spacecoast White Out, and then I ran into trouble! I couldn't decide on the freebie I wanted - either Clothed In Glory, or Destined To See. Pat recommended Clothed In Glory, because there it is more expensive than Destined To See and I'd be getting more bang for my buck. Well... they sent huge double fans of Sp. Cranberry Breeze & Spartacus Adorned, and three fans of Sp. White Out, and four big fans of Clothed In Glory! I'm a very happy camper!"

I got at least double huge, huge fans except for DESIRE OF NATIONS which was one fan but the biggest of the lot. I remember last year my order was mostly 2 fans except for MAN OF SORROWS which was a single daylily fan, the biggest I have ever seen. That split into two last fall and it came up three fans this spring. So I had asked for HEALING TOUCH as a bonus and received that. I had also listed two of her 2009 intros as bonus suggestions and I figured I would be lucky if I could get one of them. Well, she sent both! Both two large fans. I got FOUNTAIN OF LIFE and RICH IN MERCY. I am a very happy camper :-)) "

Received a $100 new introduction, Virginia Moonshine as a bonus. Last year, many of my orders were filled with four and five fans to a plant. Gray Witch from last year has over 20 fans in one year from an original five and the plant is one of the largest in my garden. From 28 plants ordered last year, all survived -20 degree tempertures in Illinois this past winter and are looking great this spring."
