Before graduating from The University of Arizona I was a Ph. D. student in the Electromagnetics and Optics Group.  My research focused on high-Q MEMS structures for microwave frequency applications.  My research also included controlled defects in electromagnetic band gap structures.  The goal of this research was to utilize MEMS processing techniques to make small EBG filters for wireless applications.
