July 3 Crabtree Falls, VA

This is a totally amazing area just off milepost 27 of the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The road down there is steep and windy.
We had to stop on the way down as Lauren was complaining about her tummy (she later took a 2 hour nap, so something
was definitely up!).  Crabtree Falls is a series of waterfalls a total of 1500 feet high.  The trail from top to bottom is 2 miles
long.  We made it a bit over halfway, we think.  Lexi pulled Lauren up some of it.  Very nice hiking spot!

This is not Crabtree Falls, it's the stream the road follows on the way there.
Near the bottom.
Lexi shows her stuff as we rest before turning around.

In the evening we went down to Lexington for the beginning of their 4th of July celebration on the parade grounds of the
Virginia Military Institute.  Very nice small-town event.  They also had about a dozen hot air balloons which took off around
sunset.
