THOSE EARLY YEARS
 
     
Richard Holmes early career involved "Surfing Film" making, and "4-wall" showings around the country notably on the East Coast where he is credited as one of those responsible for the sport's growth through the production of over 40 films.

  Later he went on to produce concerts for the Doors, the Kinks, the Christy Minstrels, The Incredible String Band and Woodstock.

  Holmes worked on Madison Avenue as an Art Director and Creative Director, at Grey Advertising, Kelly Nason Advertising, Young & Rubicam and Della Femina, working on accounts such as General Foods, Revlon, RCA, Alka Seltzer, Braniff Airlines, and Canada Dry.

  He later went on to develop and market the first water bed in 1969. His company Aquarius Products expanded to 47 retail stores in a short period in and around New York and Eastern Canada.

The Holmes Organization was founded in 1972 and has served over 275 companies and worked on more than 10,000 projects. In the fields of natural products, high-tech, biotech, financial-services and securities, laboratory instruments, transportation and alternative medicine.

The Holmes Organization has been deeply involved in the natural products industry since 1979. The firm is proud to have branded and packaged more than 1400 natural products including products for international markets.

Holmes was responsible for strategic planning, marketing and branding of Mrs. Gooch's (acknowledged to be the pioneer and premier natural foods chain) over seven years helping grow the company from two stores to nine in the Los Angeles market. A strong brand identity was built that created stature and awareness. This equity was created with advertising, direct mail, broadcast, as well as a signage and the development of a private label brand of more than 400 products. Mrs. Gooch's was later acquired by Whole Foods.

Brita water filters came to the Holmes Organization for development of a strategic plan to introduce and build the brand in the United States and Canada. Holmes duties involved strategic planning, marketing, advertising, package design/branding and product design. Holmes worked closely with management developing a licensing and distribution agreement for the United States with Clorox. Subsequently after several years of record sales Clorox acquired the company.

Holmes was an investor in Arrowhead Mills, a 30 year-old organic products company (founded by Frank Ford) which manufactures 270 grain based products. During his 7-year tenure, he was active in strategic planning, marketing, advertising, public relations, and branding of 127 products. Ready-to-eat cereals, soup mixes, bread mixes, dessert mixes, pancake and flour mixes and the like. During this period sales increased more than 300 percent.

The National Nutritional Foods Association commissioned the Holmes Organization to repositioned and brand the association. Through marketing, advertising and direct mail programs over a seven-year period, membership more than doubled.

The Holmes Organization partnered with Database Asia and Sinotrust developing international trade offices in Beijing China.

Holmes' interest and knowledge of alternative medicine were valuable assets in assisting Burton Goldberg, publishing and marketing his 1100 page book "Alternative Medicine The Definitive Guide."

Americas Challenge
   
The Holmes Organization was honored to contribute more than 1700 hours and $20,000 to help defeat the restrictive FDA proposed supplement legislation. Through Holmes' work with Citizens for Health as vice president - marketing, Citizens was successful and now has tremendous brand recognition.

 Holmes was co-founder of Secure Health Savings, a NASDAQ company specializing in programs to reduce the cost of health care nationally. He also was co-founder of BeverageSource International a NASDAQ company licensed by Rawlings to produce and brand "Rawlings Sport", a hypotonic sports drink sold nationally in the mass-market.

 A long time sailor, Holmes served as Vice President - Marketing for the "Americas Challenge" syndicate, a contestant in the Whitbread-Round-The-World Yacht Race in 1998.

 Holmes has been a faculty member of the University of California at Irvine and also served on the faculty of the Advertising Center in Los Angeles and has sat on the advisory board of the Los Angeles City College system.

 He is a frequent speaker at various natural products industry events speaking on brand building and results getting communications.
