Second Generation
5. Elizabeth Marianne Poole b. cir 1841, SC or GA,[12] m. 30 Sep 1858, in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL,[13] William Harding, Immigrant, b. cir 1821/24/28, England, (son of ____ Harding) occupation: mail boat captain, d. aft 1885, Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL (prob.). Elizabeth died 1866-70, Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL (prob.).[14]
The federal census of 1850 for Orange Co., FL, as reported in e-mail from Glenda ____ <GWtsw@aol.com> to Virginia Burger <BurgerX3@aol.com> on 28 Sep 99, indicates Elizabeth was aged 9 in the 1850 and was born in SC. Later Hillsborough Co., FL census records indicate she was born in GA.
Very little is known of the early Harding's in Florida. William Harding, the believed immigrant, was a mail boat captain born in England according to census records. He arrived first in Key West, Monroe Co., FL, but by 1860, he had apparently moved to Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL where the family remained. The Hillsborough Co., FL censuses for 1860, 1870, and 1880 give different birth dates for William and there are different wives mentioned at different times, namely an Elizabeth and then a Mary. Numerous cemetery records in the county have been checked, but it is not yet known when William and his wives died or where they are buried.
According to Glenda ____ <GWtsw@aol.com> in e-mail to Virginia Burger <Burgerx3@aol.com> on 28 Sep 99, William Harding was born in England in 1828 (census records) and was employed as a mail boat captain. If his son William was born in Key West, rather than Tampa as her notes suggest, then perhaps he was born while his father was on a trip to Key West delivering mail.

GRV has a gravestone photo of William from the Limona Cemetery in Limona, FL. Notes from the USGENWEB site <http://c23.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/fl/ hillsborough/cemetery/limona.txt> provide background on this town.
This cemetery is of particular historical value since it is one of the few remnants left of a town in Hillsborough County, Florida that no longer exists. Many of the town's founders are buried here. Most moved to the area from northern states. And many were of German descent. Limona officially became a town in 1876. Prior to being annexed in the 1970s by Brandon, a larger, neighboring town, Limona had its own post office. Limona was named for the citrus trees that proliferated in the area. The cemetery is in Brandon, about 15 miles east of Tampa. It's precise location is at the corner of Bates Road and Lakewood Drive, about 2 miles north of State Highway 60. It is owned and operated by the United Methodist Church (Village Chapel). This information compiled by Donna Murray Allen <cherokee@cftnet.com> in October 1998.
