Globecom 1996 minutes of meeting

Signal Processing and Communication Electronics Technical Committee (SPCE)
Meeting at GLOBECOM'96, London.
19 November 1996
The meeting began at 5:00 pm and 11 members were present
1. Introductions; during the introductions, Professor Ray Steele was introduced to the committee. He was very active on the SPCE committee in the past.
2. The minutes at ICC+96 were approved
3. New officers. The term of office of the current officers expired. There was a move (Trevor Clarkson) to elect new officers). The move was supported (Horst Bessai). The following were nominated and elected
- Chair: Trevor Clarkson, Kings College, University of London, UK
- Vice Chair: Naohisa Ohta, NTT, Japan
- Secretary: Jaafar Elmirghani, University of Northumbria, Newcastle, UK
4. Recertification of SPCE
- SPCE has been recertified. Out-going chairman (Stamatios Kartalopoulos) reported to COMSOC on activities over the past three years and a copy of recertification document handed to new chairman.
- Stamatios Kartalopoulos reported to SPCE on a summary of recertification document, details available from Trevor Clarkson.
5. TPR reports
A. GLOBECOM+96, Nov. 18-22, 1996; Naohisa Ohata reported:
- I 120 papers have been received by SPCE TP representative.
- II SPCE has sponsored/cosponsored 5 full sessions and two half sessions
B. ISPACS+96, Nov. 25-29, 1996; Naohisa Ohata reported:
- I This will be held with ICCS+96
- II There are 120 papers
- III Advanced programme submitted to SPCE
C. ICC+97, 8-12 June, 1997; Stamatios Kartalopoulos reported
- I TPC to meet on the following day
- II ICC+97 received about 700 papers
- III SPCE reviewed about 100 papers
D. GLOBECOM+97, Nov. 4-8, 1997; Jaafar Elmirghani reported
- I TPC to meet on the following day
- II There will be 50-60 sessions with 5-6 papers per session, some long papers proposed. SPCE has put forward 10 session and 5 tutorial proposals. Organisers within SPCE identified
