Globecom 2006 minutes of meeting

Signal Processing and Communication Electronics Technical Committee (SPCE)

Meeting at GLOBECOM2006, San Francisco, USA
29 November, 2006

 

1. Introductions - The meeting began at 7:00 AM.  Attendees introduced themselves.  The Vice-Chair Dr. Tomo Taniguchi welcomed new members to the meeting.

2. Minutes of ICC 2006 - The minutes of ICC2006 was approved with correction on the number of invited talks.

3. SPCE Award Ceremony

Dr. Tomo Taniguchi was awarded the 1st SPCE Award due to his continuous contribution as our representative at many ICC and GLOBECOM conferences and as vice chairman of our SPCE Technical Committee.

4. Technical Program Committee Reports

 

A.  Globecom2006 (San Francisco), Hung Nguyen

45 TPC members handled 213 submissions. Each paper has three reviews. 84 papers were accepted (The acceptance ratio is about 39%).  SPCE holds 12 general sessions and one poster session. GCOM06 gives the best student paper award for each area (6 areas in total). Three papers are in the final list of each area and two papers from our committee are in the final list.

B. ICC2007 (Glasgow, Scotland), Said Boussakta and Tomo Taniguchi

There are 232 submissions. 97 papers are accepted. SPCE will hold the third largest symposium.

C. Globecom2007 (Washington DC), Hung Nguyen and Tomo Taniguchi

Globecom 2007 TPC has been changed from its original composition at ICC 2005. Dr. Taniguchi will be one of the SPC symposium co-chairs.

D. ICC2008 (Beijing), Said Boussakta, Tomo Taniguchi, and Dapeng O. Wu

TPC meeting will be held this afternoon. Symposium of our SPCE has been already accepted.

E. Globecom2008 (New Orleans), Hung Nguyen and Nallanathan Arumugam

Globecom 2007 will be held 1-4 December 2008 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Hung and Nallanathan have been selected as our representatives. GC’08 TPC endorsement is needed.

F. ICC2009 (Dresden), Luc Deneire

ICC 2009 will be held 14-18 June 2009 in Dresden, Germany. Luc has been selected as one of our representatives.

G. GLOBECOM2009 (Hawaii)

Globecom2009 will be held in Honolulu Hawaii November 30 – 4 December 2009.

5. Other Businesses

5.1 SPCE Officers in next term

Due to Bin Qiu’s sick leave, Tomo Taniguchi explained the procedure on how to select the SPCE officer for next term. Dr. Tomoaki Taniguchi and Dr. Tomoaki Ohtsuki have been already nominated as Chairman and Vice Chairman in next term at ICC 2006. Dr. Hung Nguyen was nominated as Secretary. After voting and based on our policy and procedure, the following officers have been selected and approved as the SPCE officers for the next term:

Vice Chair: Tomoaki Ohtsuki
Secretary: Hung Nguyen

Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 AM.  There were 13 people in attendance.
