ICC 2001 minutes of meeting


IEEE COMMUNICATIONS SOCIETY
Signal Processing and Communication Electronics Technical Committee (SPCE)

Meeting at ICC 2001, Helsinki, Finland
11 June 2001, 5:00 pm - 5:40 pm

1. Introductions and welcome to new members - The meeting began at 5:00 PM sharp.  Attendees introduced themselves.

2. Minutes of Globecom2000 - The minutes of Globecom2000 were approved with the correction of minor typo at item G.

3. Technical Program Committee (TPC) and Workshop reports

A. ICC 2001 Helsinki, Y Lee, J. Elmirghani
SPCE has three sessions in the General Conference.

B. ISPACS 2001 Nashville, N. Otha, B. Qiu
About 100 submissions. CFP closed but invited papers still open.

C. Globecom'01 Y. Lee (TPC), N. Ohta (Symposium)
88 submissions received and will accept 42. SPCE will have 4 sessions in the general conference and 6 sessions in the Symposium. 10 session chairs are required.

D. ICC2002 Moe WIN (Technical Vice Chair)
There will be no general conference but symposia based. He also circulated two CFPs as follows:

  1. IEEE JSAC on Ultra Wide Band Radio in Multi-Access Wireless Communications
  2. 2002 IEEE Conference on Ultra Wideband Systems and Technologies

Moe Win requested SPCE to provide technical support for the conference which was granted and the conference will be linked with the SPCE web site.

E. Globecom'02 Tomo Taniguchi, Moe Win, Yumin Lee
The preliminary CFP is ready and formal CFP is being worked out. There will be 10 Symposia and the time will be tight for paper review. Most likely ComSoc will adopt a web review system for both Globecom and ICC which will speed up the process. A symposium will receive at least 80 submissions to be held otherwise submissions go to the general conference.

F. ISPACS'02, N. Ohta
It will be held in Taiwan right after Globecom'02, in a city close to Taipei. More details TBA.

G. ITS'02 Netal, Brazil,  Marcello De Campos
Web site and CFP are both ready.

H. Milcom'01
Nothing further has been heard.

I. Milcom'02
Nothing further has been heard.

J. ICC 2003 Anchorage Alaska,  J. Elmirghani
On agenda and TPC members required. Amir and Bin agreed to coordinate events leading to ICC'03.

 

4. Tutorial proposals for future conferences
Requesting for further proposals.

5. Workshop reports
Proposals requested, membership to be contacted.

6. Communication Magazine, J. Elmirghani
Proposals requested, membership to be contacted.

7.  Chair's actions, J. Elmirghani
CSNDSP requested and obtained the help from local IEEE chapter (UK). It has received about 100 papers.

8. Other business,
SPCE has about $500 budget. Members can propose on items of spending.

9. Presentation to Naohisa Ohta
A plaque is presented to Naohisa for his service as the last Chair of SPCE.

10. Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 PM.  There were 11 people in attendance.
