ENGLAND
We begin in England with our name. The name of Hurst is one who lived by, or in, the wood or cospe, or on the knoll or hillock - "New Dictionary of American Family Names" by Edsdon C. Smith, and has various spellings, ie, Hyrste, Hirste, Hyrst, Hurse, Hurste, Hurst, Hearst to name a few. "Burke's General Armory" lists the Hurst crest (seen on the main page) and describes it as a red Sun on a silver background--the silver background was supposedly reserved for nobility. ***Regarding HENRY HURST , information from June Reed (a cousin in England) January 1999. "The Henry Hurst who was born in Leckhampstead in 1679 married a Sarah in London & was still in London in 1708 when his last child was born. And was still there in 1710. This is a proven fact.(p) There is no record of a Henry Hurst marrying a Mary Bill in Leckhampstead & no record of any births to Henry Hurst of a William, John or James in Leckhampstead. I have photocopies of the Parish Records for Leckhampstead. And Roy Hurst & Maurice Loaring have found none. Both Roy & Maurice are very competent researchers in England and have tried very hard to find out the true facts regarding Henry."
June goes on to give the information about the Henry Hurst in England who's wife was Sarah and their family. June asks for the "American Hursts" to research and discover the true facts on our Henry Hurst and his three sons, William, James and John.
