The game begins in the city of Midgar, a technological marvel of the Shin-ra Corporation. Those who can afford it live on an upper plate that rests high above the city’s slums. Midgar is powered by eight Mako Reactors that line the periphery of the city. Shin-ra brought the world Mako energy to give people an easier life, but there are those who believe Shin-ra’s motives are to line their own pockets at the expense of the planet.

This group is Avalanche, a terrorist organization determined to stop Shinra from killing the planet. Mako energy is the life-blood of the planet, and by sucking it up and converting it into energy, Shin-ra will destroy the planet and all life on it.

To prevent this, Avalanche attempts to destroy the Mako Reactors. Barret, the leader of Avalanche, hires an ex-soldier named Cloud to aid the group in infiltrating the reactors.

During Cloud’s involvement with Avalanche, he runs into old friends and new allies, each with their own stories. Cloud’s own personal tale takes center stage as a mysterious man from his past becomes the greatest threat to the world…

The story of Final Fantasy VII is, in my opinion, the most compelling out of all of the Final Fantasy games. Every character has an interesting past filled with tragedy. Hometowns were destroyed, dreams were lost, and loved ones died. All the characters carried the pain of their pasts with them, but they still held hope for the future.

It is my hope to make this section of the site a worthy shrine to the Final Fantasy VII storyline and characters. Be warned that there are game spoilers everywhere. I recommend you play FF7 for yourself first before reading the information and opinions in this section.
