FAQ

These are questions I am asked frequently,  along with the answers.

Did you lose weight because of the stress of your son’s disappearance?

No, I lost weight because I decided that I really wanted to lose the weight.  My son’s disappearance was one of the main catalysts, however.

How do you stay motivated over a longer period of time?

It’s difficult to pinpoint any one thing. I thought of my journey in steps, rather than as a whole. It seemed too daunting to think of having to lose 225 lbs. I keep reminders around me of how things were before, such as old photos, & how things would be, such as photos from when I was young & slim. If I was tempted to go off track, all I had to do was think of my driver’s license photo. (see above)

How did you lose weight so quickly?

So far, I appear to be a fast loser. Some people are not. It is better to be a slow loser as the skin re-adjusts better, & it’s healthier for you. Losing weight fast is hard on a body, so don’t ever feel you should lose as quickly as I have. (I am under a doctor’s care and doing quite well) Calories in, calories out is the simple weight loss formula. I eat a sufficient amount of calories, but I expend quite a bit because of my exercise routines  (typically 1 hour per day, sometimes more)

What will you do when you reach goal weight?

Hmmmm…….I love thinking about this. Clothes, clothes, & more clothes. I love shopping for clothes now...it’s such a joy, & it will be wonderful to be able to buy clothes that I will wear for more than a month or two!  I think I’d also like to have a party & dance the night away!

What will you do about your excess skin?

My current insurance provider doesn’t cover that type of surgery...most do not, and we cannot afford to pay for it on our own.

A person needs to give the skin 1-2 years after reaching goal weight to see how much it shrinks. The excess skin is not a pretty sight. In fact, my skin looks like an orange peel from the waist to the knees.  My main objective is to be healthy.  I never wore shorts or short skirts anyway because of orthopedic problems, so that’s no loss. I would like to wear tank tops or short sleeves, but my good health is more important than the clothes I wear.

What role does God have in your journey?

He has a primary role. It is from Him that I get the strength to be able to do this. I know that He wants us to take care of the bodies He gave us. We only get one, you know! When things get difficult, I ask for the strength to continue. When things are going well, I thank Him for bringing me to where I am today. Each day when I wake up, I am amazed at how just good I feel, and I know it will keep on getting better and better!

A Prayer for Weight Loss:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you for this beautiful day and for all of the blessings you have bestowed upon me. I look forward to glorifying Your name as I go through this day, which You have given me. Please guide me and assist me in my endeavors to make this body a temple as You intended. When I have not the strength to carry on another moment in this journey, please lift me and nourish me with the spiritual food that I desire. Thank you for giving me this body, which is so miraculous in its design. Assist me in my ability to move it more often, so that I may restore it to the state in which You gave it to me. I praise You and give You thanks forever and ever. Amen.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone that has visited my webpage and either wrote to me personally, or signed my guestbook. I appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers from all of you.  While I don’t always have the time to respond to each one of you individually, please know that what you said touched me deeply. My goal in publishing the site is to let you know that you can do this, too. Anything is possible if you believe in yourself! So many of you have told me that you now believe that. I’m excited for you all. No matter how long it takes, just stick with it. You are worth it.

Dare to dream!
