Interior GLOBE
Meeting Notes
November 17, 1999
New Announcement Coordinator
- Daphne Berwald has agreed to be the new Interior GLOBE announcement
coordinator. This position would make sure that events that the organization
presents are announced in the Washington BLADE and on the Interior and FED GLOBE websites.
She takes the responsibility from Bob Veltkamp.
Holiday Party
- This years holiday party will be held at Jim Gasser and Gregg
Ramseys home, where it was held the year before last. As we did that year, we
are asking that everyone bring what they want to drink, a shared hors douevre, and
canned or dried foods for Food and Friends charity. The time is 5-8 p.m. on December
17, 1999. Please RSVP by December 13 to Jim at 202-208-6571. Jim will provide
directions to his home.
Andrew Dolkart Presentation
- The presentation by Andrew Dolkart on October 21, 1999, was well
received. Andrew shared some interesting details about the events that took place at
Stonewall in June of 1969. You can see some notes on the talk on our website: talk.html
Interior GLOBE Web Site
- President Maria Wiseman recognized Bob for his work on the GLOBE web
site. There was a discussion of the need for content guidelines. Bob will post
notes for each monthly meeting, rather than the detailed and lengthy minutes - focusing on
the key points so as to not inundate the reader.
- The meeting participants discussed adding to our web site links
connecting to various web sites of interest to the Department's GLOBE members. Bob
will create a page of such links. Anyone finding a good web site they feel might be
of interest to Interior GLOBE members can send the web address to Bob Veltkamp for
inclusion on the Interior GLOBE pages. Bob will bring any controversial site
requests to GLOBE meetings for final decisions.
- A disclaimer will be put on our site stating that DOI GLOBE does not endorse or approve of any information available at any
external site or linked addresses contained in this web site
and that no government funds are used in maintaining this website.
World AIDS Day Planning
- On December 1, 1999, the Department will commemorate World AIDS Day.
Assistant Secretary John Berry will deliver an address and NPS Director Robert
Stanton will be there also to talk about the Combined Federal Campaign and AIDS
Organizations that are supported through the Campaign.
- The ceremony will be held in the South Building Auditorium
(Constitution Avenue, between 19th and 20th Streets NW).
- There will be a wreath-laying presentation and AIDS Quilt Panels will
be brought in for this ceremony. There were several names put forward as speakers and both
President Wiseman and Secretary Gasser will speak with the Departments contact about
the program.
- AIDS Ribbons will be provided at the Main Interior Building for all
employees to wear for the day.
Diversity Positions
- David Liboff from the Statue of Liberty National Park will be
detailed to a temporary position as the new Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Liaison in the Office
of the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Diversity in the Work Place. Jim announced
that David should be reporting to work in Washington on December 6, 1999. He will be
addressing a number of ongoing concerns of the GLOBE membership.
- Minniejean Brown-Trickey has been selected as the new Deputy
Assistant Secretary for Diversity in the Workplace. She has the distinction of being
