Interior GLOBE
Meeting Notes
November 21, 2006
Planning for Interior GLOBE conference with Sharon Eller, Director of the DOI
Office of Civil Rights (OCR)
Today’s meeting was devoted to reviewing and discussing the status of a draft
agenda and briefing document (attached) that has been compiled for a proposed
conference with Sharon. The conference will be scheduled after this material is
finalized.
It was recommended at today’s meeting that the next steps in finalizing and
distributing the agenda and briefing document should include the following:
- Identify specific actions that the Office of Civil
Rights has the authority to implement on its own. Maria Wiseman agreed to
compile an initial list of such actions. If you have recommendations for
actions by OCR, please send them to:
Maria_Wiseman@ios.doi.gov.
- Expand Interior GLOBE’s proposed use of the Human
Rights Campaign’s (HRC) 2006 Corporate Equality Index (CEI) to help the
Department identify ways in which to strengthen overall workplace
competitiveness, satisfaction, and productivity. The HRC Corporate Equality
Index is derived from the answers to a series of questions designed to provide
a broad measure of corporate policies and practices toward the GLBT community
(HRC Corporate Equality Index 2006, p. 45-60). Additional CEI ratings for DOI
will be obtained as follows:
- Ike Kelley will send a copy of the HRC questions to
Sharon and ask her to fill it out.
- Maria Wiseman will send copies of the questions to
other DOI bureaus.
- Copies of the questions are attached for all members
of Interior GLOBE. Members are asked to answer the questions as best they
can and send their answers to jbriskey@usgs.gov by December 8, 2006.
- Ask respondents to the questions to suggest new or
revised questions that would apply more specifically to the federal workplace.
- Ask respondents to provide any appropriate
documentation and (or) explanation to supplement their answers.
