Planning for Interior GLOBE meeting with Sharon Eller, Director, Office of
Civil Rights (OCR)
Much of today’s meeting was devoted to continuing review and discussion of the
draft agenda and briefing document compiled late last year for this proposed
meeting. Action items were summarized in the GLOBE meeting minutes from November
21, 2006. Ike Kelley sent the draft agenda and briefing document, together with
action items, to Interior GLOBE’s membership by email on December 29, 2006.
The next step is for Ike to coordinate with Maria Wiseman on any action items remaining from the November meeting, then work with Sharon’s office to begin scheduling the meeting.
Ideas for Events for June Pride Month
The Department is supporting training sessions for Special Emphasis Events like
June Pride. Meeting attendees discussed some ways Interior GLOBE might attempt
to identify subjects, organizations, and people appropriate for such a training
session, including contacting the Human Rights Campaign and other GLBT advocacy
and support groups in the Washington D.C. area. First, however, suggestions are
solicited herein from the members of Interior GLOBE:
By issuance of these minutes, Interior GLOBE is asking all of its members to submit ideas for such a training session. If you know of subjects, organizations, or people appropriate for such a training session, please notify Ike Kelley at his new email address: Michael_Kelley@ios.doi.gov.
Status of GLBT Liaison
Richard Nolan has retired. Richard had been serving as a part-time GLBT liaison
for the Office of Civil Rights, although he was stationed with BLM in Phoenix,
Arizona. Richard has been a tireless supporter for many GLBT employees,
counseling them through various issues and concerns. GLOBE is deeply
appreciative of Richard’s efforts for the GLBT community and wishes him well in
his retirement.
At the meeting with Sharon Eller, Interior GLOBE will ask about plans to replace Richard.
Proposed Changes to the By-Laws to More Explicitly Support Transgendered Employees
Ike shortly will send the proposed changes to Interior GLOBE members for a vote.
At the planned meeting with Sharon, Interior GLOBE will ask about DOI policies for accommodating (1) transgendered employees, and (2) transgendered members of the public who may visit DOI facilities both here and in the field.
Social Events
Interior GLOBE members attending the May meeting are encouraged to plan to meet for lunch at a mutually agreeable location after the meeting is adjourned.
