Meeting Notes
August 11, 1999
President Douglas Stepping Down
- Jay Douglas announced that he is stepping down as
President of Interior GLOBE. He cited needs to reduce his workload due to new family
responsibilities.
- Jay has asked Treasurer Maria Wiseman and VP Veltkamp
to work out an agreement for leadership of Interior GLOBE to be presented to the
membership at the September meeting. The next meeting will have that as a major
discussion for all members and a vote on the leadership.
Interior GLOBE Representative to Department
Diversity Council Resigns
- Jim Gasser, who has been the openly gay member of the
Department Diversity Council, prepared a letter of resignation to the Acting Deputy
Assistant Secretary for Workforce Diversity who over sees the Departments Diversity
Council. He stated that the Council has been of little support to gay, lesbian, and
bisexual issues during the past three years of his attendance of meetings of the Council.
Further, the diversity effort at the Department is in reality an affirmative action
effort not addressing gay, lesbian and bisexual issues.
- There was support from all on his resignation from
the Council. The letter will be given to the DAS- Workplace Diversity on August 16,
1999, prior to the next Diversity Council meeting in August.
AIDS Walk DC
- September 26, 1999, will be the 13th
Annual AIDS Walk in Washington, DC. Interior GLOBE will again sponsor a team and the
team number is 255. All members are encouraged to sign up for the Walk and make sure
that their registration has that number on it in order for the Departments Team to
receive credit for the contributions.
- Jay Douglas will send a notice to all members on the
Walk and send a memo appropriate for the Deputy Assistant Secretary Workplace
Diversity to send to all employees encouraging their participation. Jim asked Daphne
Berwald to be the point of contact for the Interior GLOBE and she agreed. Daphne
will be able to answer any questions that potential Walkers might have about fund raising,
the Walk, or the Interior Team.
World AIDS Day
- World AIDS Day is December 1, 1999. The
Assistant Secretary - Policy, Management and Budget has annually led and participated in
this event.
- Jay Douglas will send an e-mail to A/S Berry and ask
him what he would like to do about this years commemoration.
Holiday Party
- To make sure that everyone has plenty of notice to
attend this years holiday party, Jim offered his house in Washington as the site of
the event. It will be December 17, 1999, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Details will
follow, but members are encouraged to mark the date on their calendars.
