2004 & 2005 Hemet Double Century

2005 - It was cool and sunny all day. It never got past the 60's. No rain -BUT- we were fighting headwinds that shifted all day. We got a lucky break on the last 30 miles when we finally got a tailwind. This is the 1st Double of my DeROSA KING (a.k.a ELVIS). It rode exceptionally well, even inspiring me to take this familiar downhill-hard-right-sweeping-turn one-handed. It also helped that I have changed my tire pressures from 125psi down to 105psi in order to reduce flats and increase ride comfort. Due to numerous circumstances outside of my control, the ride took much longer than my normal times. But since I have designated this to be a training and preparatory double for the California Triple Crown Stage Race, I was not concerned about my time and rank. Nevertheless, here it is:

Distance ------- 200.2 miles
Elevation Gain - 6,381 ft
Elapsed Time --- 13:23:00
Placed --------- 41th of 129 males
Ride Time ------ 11:46:00
Ride Speed ----- 17.0 mph
Total Pit Stop - 01:36:00 - includes Vic Miera's 30 min. mechanical problem

2004 - Supposedly the easiest double century with less than 6,000 ft. of climbing. HAH! There is no such thing as an 'easy' double century. It rained almost all day. I have no extensive report. The pic below says it all (check out the caption of the left pic near the guardrail) ... Hemet riders brave rain and wind !!
