We have here a 91 Dodge Shadow ES convertible. Its one of the few
factory turbo 5spd cars produced over two years. Only option
installed was power windows. The car's wiring is there for all
the available options for a 91 shadow. So I've added power door
locks and power side mirrors.I got this car out of Virginia from a
fellow turbododge owner in the Fall of 2004. I had posted a feeler
looking for a turbo convertible in the New England area. My 4dr Red
Shadow had a weak cylinder and alot of pin hole rust in the floor.
As I was gathering up the parts for a motor rebuild, the previous owner
contacted me. Since I had already had the money for a motor rebuild,
I figured it would be in my best interest to pickup a car with zero rust,
health motor and 100K miles.
From what I understand, this car has traded hands a few times.
I'm at least the 3rd owner, but I there is a chance I might be the 4th.
Car was pretty beat-up when I got it. Previous owner started to strip the
layers of paint but lost interest. He got the car with a nice big
hole punched into the spare tire well. Interior was pretty nasty.
The clutch was slipping. One white pumper center cap was missing.
The car was leaking water into the cab.
That was the bad, The good was the motor was the cleanest part of
the car. Owner had put on a cleaner/newer top. Owner did some
of the hard mods already. He removed the balance shafts and
installed a solid rear sway bar Spirit R/T axle. He also had an
underdrive pulley and removed the A/C.
This car has taught me alot about convertible shadows. You would
be amazed how hacked these cars are. Plus there are alot of specific
parts too. Alot of them are NOS or very expensive from the dealer.
I'm going to start cataloging these parts to help out other convertible
Shadow ES owners. I also plan to start a registry for these cars
too. I've saved a few VIN tags from junkyard convertibles.
My plans are to restore the performance of the car. Get it
painted white. The theme for this car is blacked out. I
started with the wheels and brakes. I have alot of my spare engine
parts painted flat black. I'll put on OEM black Shadow ES decals
found on aqua teal metallic P-bodies. Once I need a new top, that
will be black too.
