The CSS Manassas, built from a towboat It's
hull was plated over with a convex shape, leaving only 2' 6" projecting
above the water. Cannonballs just glanced off of it. After much discussion
I have been convinced that the Manassas had two stacks, so I've changed
my rendering to reflect this. The Manassas took part in an
attack on the Federal blockading fleet at the Head of the Passes on the
Mississippi Delta. This attack drove the Union forces from their position
in confusion. Later, the Manassas took part in the defense of New Orleans
against Farragut's fleet below New Orleans, ramming several vessels before
being run aground and burned.
