The Undine was one of many riverboats lightly armored and used throughout the Mississippi River system. They were armed with 32pdr smooth bores, and armored with .25 to .5 inch sheetmetal. They were called "Tinclads" by the brownwater navy. The Undine was converted from theBen Gaylord and saw service on the Eastport, Miss.Expedition. Disabled during an engagement on the Tennessee River near Paris Landing, Tenn., and captured, 30 Oct. 1864. Burned by the Confederates to avoid recapture.
