INT. SALLY'S HOUSE- FLASHBACK
Sally Brooks looks miserable as she sleeps. She is still a little overweight
from the pregnancy. Mike stands by the bedside watching her. Mrs. Brooks,
Sally's MOTHER steps beside Mark and places a hand on his shoulder, startling
him.
SALLY'S MOTHER
She'll need more time. If I can forgive you, eventually so will she.
MARK
Its been so long since I've seen her smile. I didn't mean to hurt her.
SALLY'S MOTHER
The doctor says it the stress did it. She's really been through a lot. I guess
part of it was my fault. I was so angry when she told me about the pregnancy.
MARK
I'm sorry I left. I just couldn't deal...
SALLY'S MOTHER
Running was not the answer, Mark. She lost the baby because of the stress of you
leaving and my disapproval. That's when I realized I had to forgive you both.
(Stacy Brooks enters the room.)
STACY
I bet you were happy when you found out about her miscarriage.
SALLY'S MOTHER
Stacy!
STACY
Well, he didn't want the baby! I'm not going to placate what he did. All of
Sally's problems are because of him!
MARK
She kept the miscarriage a secret. I wanted to be there for her, but she wouldn't
return my calls.
SALLY'S MOTHER
That's why I called you, but you'd better go now. I don't think she's ready to
see you yet. I'm sorry.
