PULCINELLA!
February 2009, Phoenix, Arizona: Italian actor and singer Ciro Giorgio, a.k.a., Pulcinella, will be returning to the Valley of the Sun this February. Giorgio will participate once again in the Phoenix Sister Cities’ Fourth Annual WorldFEST presented by Pro’s Ranch Markets, at the invitation of the Catania Sister City Committee. He will be appearing in the Parade of Flags in his Pulcinella costume on Saturday morning, Feb. 28. He will be singing Italian and Neapolitan songs, including some from his Italian Jazz and San Gennaro Feast CDs on the World Stage on Sunday afternoon.

Other stops this time in Arizona will include as a guest at this year’s National Italian American Foundation Media Networking Forum to be held on Feb. 24 in Phoenix. Francis Battaglia, president of KFNX 1100 AM, and FOX-10 anchors Alexis DelChiaro and Rick D’Amico will serve as this year’s co-chairs.

Giorgio received an award at this year’s International Short Films Festival in Mendicino for his work in keeping alive the memory of the great Italian actor Totò. Giorgio shared information about Totò and other aspects of Italian culture as a special guest at the Scottsdale Latin Group’s Valentine’s Day evening. Giorgio sang a few songs and played the grand piano. Riccardo played the guitar and sang Italian ballads. Italian cuisine was prepared by Chef Sherry Satta, a holder of the Cordon Bleu of Paris grande diploma teaching certificate. Giorgio and gianna will also be appearing at the March 4 lunch of the Int’l Women’s Club of Arizona.

Pulcinella in Las Vegas, Hollywood & Phoenix
September 2008: Ciro Giorgio will once again bring the Neapolitan mask of Pulcinella, “the mask of the Commedia dell'Arte that is the incarnation of the Neapolitan spirit and character,” to the United States. In addition to appearing in processions dressed as Pulcinella, the actor and singer will return with his “Ciro Giorgio Show,” with special guest Sicilian tenor Giuseppe Ranzani, to the 29th Annual “San Gennaro Feast” in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 9-14, one of the largest gatherings of Italian-Americans. Arts Cafè Napoli, Giorgio’s newest project, will be presenting an award created by the artist Salvatore Oliva to Anthony Palmisano, the Feast organizer, for his work in maintaining Italian traditions. The Neapolitan entertainer will also be singing all those beautiful Neapolitan and Italian songs, many from his “San Gennaro Feast” and "Italian Jazz" CDs, at the “Feast of San Gennaro,” Los Angeles, September 26-28. Selections will include “Tu vuo’ fa’ l’americano,” “Nel blu dipinto di blu,” "Baci," "Buona sera signorina", and "Quando quando quando." At the end of the month, September 28, Giorgio will be singing at the 25th Anniversary Feast of the Maria SS. Lauretana Society at St. Joan of Arc Church in Phoenix, AZ. The Feast includes music, Italian food, a mass in English and Italian, the procession, and “angels” reciting the traditional volata (Italian prayer).
“Pulcinella” will also be performing some magic tricks at John F. Long Elementary School in Phoenix. Watch “La Squadra” on Rai Int’l late September to catch Giorgio in another episode, this time as the head of a drug ring.

Joining him in as Vegas will be singers Ignazio Pes, Lorenzo Guida, Giuseppe Cirillo, Franco Ferretti, Paola Salurso, Clotilde Capparelli, and Massimo Civale. The City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department Latino Institute presented its tenth year of “El Día de los Niños” festival in central Phoenix on April 29. Many culturally-diverse activities were available, including Ciro Giorgio as Pulcinella, representing Phoenix’s Catania Sister City Committee. Ciro Giorgio sang for his third time at the festival, on the “showmobile.”
