A study by the National Reading Panel
emphasized the importance of five dimensions of reading associated with effective
instruction and learning in the area of literacy. Assessments and
reading instruction at Scherkenbach ES are based on the five dimensions of reading.

Awareness —The ability to hear and manipulate sounds.
