Baja Surf Trip Pictures

Route 1 from TJ to Cabo San Lucas - Seems really narrow when big trucks are approaching.

Cardon cactus are all around South of El Rosario

Bob and Greg outside Greg's Expedition - It was sooo clean before the dirt roads!
This was taken in San Ignacio after driving south all day.

A Great place to stay in San Ignacio - International Rice and Beans

Cool Scenery

This was the start of the "East Road" between Mulege and Lareto - It's 69 miles of dirt roads to San Juanico
cutting from the East side of Baja to the West. GPS helped to find this road.

Greg and Bob under a 30 foot Cardon cactus - They get up to 50 feet high and are
related to Seguaro cactus in Arizona

Stuck Truck blocks traffic in both directions on the East Road.
The guy on the right syphoned gas from his truck to help get it running.
Delays like this are part of the adventure.

1st Destination: Scorpion Bay @ San Juanico, BC

San Juanico is about 2/3 of the way to Cabo San Lucas

Larger view - The last 70 miles are dirt roads in unpredictable shape!

Panaramic View of the 2nd Point at Scorpion Bay

2nd Point - Great for longboards - H2O temp. >80F

Cantina at Scorpion Bay - Main relief from heat and bordom when not reading or surfing.
Great food and drinks!

2nd Destination: Punta Abreojos

After meeting Rick and Anaika in Scorpion bay,  they decided to join us up to Punta Abreojos as the waves in
Scorpion bay were fun but still somewhat small. Rick and Anaika were "Top Shelf", really great people!

Rick and Anaika on their honeymoon!

Bob, Greg, Rick and Anaika - Note there were 14 surfboards total.

One of the "North Road" residents on our way up to Punta Abreojos.

Anaika Talking to Yakky - Yakky says "Sorry no lunch today!"

Turkey Vultures were a common site in Baja

Back through San Ignacio - then on to Punta Abreojos

While listening to Hendrix doing about 60 on the dirt road to Punta Abreojos and drinking beers,
we heard that sickening "THUNK" sound of roof rack trouble.
Greg pulled over quickly as he saw surfboards flying throught the air and crashing around behind us.
One of the caps came loose allowing the strap to come off along with 4 surfboards.
Fortunately, the dirt was soft and only one of the boards got dinged - It could have been much worse.

Arriving at Punta Abreojos - Fisherman arriving with catch.
The waves were a bit better at this place. There were 4 breaks we tried there over the next few days.

Campsite in Punta Abreojos - was about 3 miles East of town.
I explored the town one day on unicycle to find Chelo's - a Pizza place with good beer!

One of the campside residents who was about 2 inches long and was not afraid to
tap on my sneaks for some cookies!

The camp setup was pretty mellow and then came the winds....

Camp Chaos

After the winds kicked up over 30mph and the surf got blown out, it was time to imbibe in
some libations. (throw down beers)

There would be no sleeping in this tent tonight!

Sand was everywhere after this sandstorm - I mean EVERYwhere: Use your imagination!!!

Kite Surfer

Wind and Kite surfers had no crowd trouble when the winds kicked in!

We headed North and finally surfed the last day at a place called K38 just South of Calafia.
All-in-all we had 10 straight days of really fun surfing on different conditions.
The biggest waves were only 20 minutes South of the border but all the places we visited
and people we met were a blast!
