Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist when he grows up. -- Pablo Picasso
Designed and facilitated by a registered art therapist, ART IN HAND provides a developmentally appropriate approach to creativity and the arts for young children. ART IN HAND is unique in that it is designed especially, and exclusively, for toddlers and preschoolers.

We offer classes for children and their parent/caregiver, parent education and professional development workshops, and consultation services for early childhood professionals.

What is ART IN HAND?
ART IN HAND's
mission is to guide parents, caregivers, and teachers in introducing their children to the magic of self-discovery that comes from nurturing the creative spirit within.

The ART IN HAND program is based on an understanding of the social, emotional, cognitive, motor and sensory needs of young children, and the program is designed to support growth across these areas. Our goal is not so much to create great artists, but through providing great art experiences, to help little ones develop into great people who can think creatively and navigate confidently through many areas of their lives.

Each session incorporates an interactive story time intended to enhance your little one's early love of reading and emerging language skills, while inspiring young imaginations for the art-making that follows. Age-appropriate art materials and sensory experiences are introduced to stimulate your children's natural desire to create and express themselves. Budding artists have opportunities to experiment with a wide range of quality art media designed specifically for use by young children (non-toxic and washable). Classes engage children by reflecting concepts and themes they can relate to -- self-image, feelings, relationships and sharing, observations about nature and the world around them.

ART IN HAND is an inclusive program designed to meet the unique needs and abilities of all toddlers and preschoolers.

Why is ART IN HAND Important?
Because it's never too early to nurture your child's innate creativity!

Early experiences with the arts can enhance your child's emotional growth:

Encouraging developmentally appropriate creative exploration through the arts is also linked to brain development and skill acquisition:

When materials are chosen with the developmental needs of young children in mind, art-making promotes sensory integration.
