OFFICERS, JOIN VIPMOAA
Virginia Peninsula chapter of the Military Officers Association of
America (MOAA).
The Virginia Peninsula chapter of MOAA (VIPMOAA) invites all peninsula
officers to join us – active duty, reserve, guard, retired, and veteran
officers - commissioned & warrant officers - of any rank and any
branch of service including Public Health and NOAA. Widows &
widowers of deceased officers may join as auxiliary
members. Most VIPMOAA members live in Williamsburg,
Yorktown, Hampton & Newport News. We also have members in
Mathews, Hayes, Arc, Gloucester, James City County, Poquoson and
elsewhere. Military installations include Langley Air Force Base,
Fort Eustis, Fort Monroe, and Yorktown Naval Weapons and Coast Guard
Stations.
Our dynamic 5-star chapter, in operation for over 35 years, offers a
variety of activities for a variety of interests.
VIPMOAA MEMBERS:
- Advocate with state and national legislators
on issues of importance to Virginia veterans, retirees and actively
serving military, their families and survivors. Each year,
VIPMOAA storms the state capital in Richmond (usually January) and
meets with Virginia’s congresspersons in Washington DC (usually April),
along with other Virginia chapters of MOAA. Led by the Virginia Council
of Chapters (VCOC) of MOAA, we were particularly successful at the
state level in 2006, gaining in-state tuition for dependents of
military members who are stationed in Virginia but not state
residents. Your membership in VIPMOAA strengthens our efforts at
both the state and federal levels of government.
- Receive 11 monthly newsletters with articles
of interest to local officers. Newsletters include legislative &
personal affairs updates, travel opportunities and local patriotic
events.
- Present ROTC & JROTC awards to local
college and high school students.
- Participate in Relay for Life to raise money
for the American Cancer Society.
- Enjoy dynamic, interesting programs at
Membership meetings. VIPMOAA rotates meetings between Fort Eustis
Club, Langley Officers Club and Williamsburg restaurant or conference
centers, with an occasional outing elsewhere. Meetings are held
monthly, except July. We hold a few day time meetings and many
dinner meetings. In July we usually hold an informal brunch with
another Virginia MOAA chapter. Spouses and guests are encouraged
to attend. Officers are elected at our November business meeting
for the following year.
15 MONTHS FOR $15. Join VIPMOAA this fall and receive
maximum benefits for your money… up to fifteen months for fifteen
dollars (October 2006 through December 2007). Widows/Widowers of
officers pay only $10 for the same time frame and benefits as regular
(officer) members. VIPMOAA membership forms are available at
meetings, from board members and on VIPMOAA website.
MEMBERSHIP IN NATIONAL MOAA IS ENCOURAGED. Benefits of
national membership, include the excellent magazine, national
legislative updates via email, insurance, travel, employment
assistance, and MOAA’s highly effective lobbying efforts in DC.
Officers and Widows/widowers of officers may join national MOAA in
2007, using the special Give Me Ten form, and receive two years for the
price of one ($27 for officers, $24 for auxiliary) or free one year
membership for currently serving officers (active duty, guard and
reserves). Mailing the Give Me Ten form to VIPMOAA by Dec 10th,
to join national MOAA, will help the local chapter (VIPMOAA) in the
2007 competition for recruiting incentive awards. VIPMOAA
membership forms ask for your MOAA membership number (located on your
officer magazine from MOAA). MOAA dues are paid separately than
chapter membership dues.
